2.1 Rekindled World - Changelog (2024)

Hello y'all! Today we're bringing you a huge changelog for a huge update: Rekindled World!

This changelog will go more in-depth about changes and our decisions behind them, so expect it to be a little more word-y than you might expect.

We HEAVILY recommend that you watch the trailer and read the update page before reading this changelog.

WYNNCRAFT.COM/REKINDLED

Just like last time, we've also shown the update in advance to Wynncraft content creators! You can watch their video or their stream (they are live right now!)

This update, we started using a lot of new tools that are only available in higher Minecraft versions. From this update onward, Wynncraft will only support Minecraft 1.20.2 and higher.

New Mob System

We've reworked our mob system from the ground up! It's now a completely different beast under the hood. We are no longer limited to a dozen types of AIs and abilities. We have effectively infinite ways to make mobs move, act, and look different.

This system does not limit us only to bosses and big attacks. You'll notice a lot of random additions throughout the world, all powered by it! Birds that actually react to your presence, chickens that peck the ground, insects you can squish by stepping on them, a ball you can kick around, etc.

Though, this is not to say that ALL mobs will use this system and be completely unique. There are still thousands of them that will not make use of it. For example, the zombies around Ragni shouldn't have incredible intellect and abilities. And Wynncraft, by its design, tends to have a lot of these "grunt" mobs throughout the game. (Did you know Wynncraft has around 10,000 different mobs?)

Our long-term goal is to eventually change every single boss and most mobs (when it makes sense) to the new system.

So far I've only talked about the great utilities this system brings us, but I haven't mentioned its newest, most flashy addition: actual animated models! Mobs can now look amazing on top of playing the part. Their abilities aren't shown using an ambiguous white circle, they will physically move in unique ways to warn you about their attacks.

Improvements & Reworks

We have improved a lot of areas throughout the game. Both the visual and gameplay.

Wynn Province Build Improvements

The Wynn Province has gone through many small-to-medium build improvements. Loot chests distribution has been improved and many mobs have been changed to use the new system.

  • Ternaves
  • Bremminglar
  • Mt. Wynn
  • Nemract Cathedral
  • Corruption Portal
  • Various Improvements to the overall landscape

Desert Region Improvements

  • Reworked The Mercenary
  • Updated the Canyon Condor level requirement (38 -> 34)
  • Various QOL improvements to nearly all desert quests
    • A Sandy Scandal
    • Green Gloop
    • Wrath Of The Mummy
    • Kingdom Of Sand
    • Canyon Condor
  • The Almuj Bank is no longer blocked by the Sandy Scandal quest
  • Reworked nearly all bosses
  • Various build reworks
You may notice that the WynnExcavation quest is missing from this. Because of its importance, and the fact that it is a 4-quests storyline, we prefer to update WynnExcavation all at once at a later date. It's definitely a quest that feels outdated by our standards of today.

Reworked Misc. Bosses

  • Durum Protector
  • Rymek Luke
  • The Great Bridge
  • Ghost Ship Pirate Captain
  • Sayleros' Brother
  • co*ckatrice
  • Mummy
  • Corrupted Captain (from Elemental Exercise)
  • Tasim (from Elemental Exercice)
  • Takan (from The Mercenary)
  • Bandit Leader (from Sandy Scandal)
  • Cluckles
  • Tutorial Boss
  • Maltic's Witch
  • Essren (from Potion Making)
  • Albert & Etus (from Stable Story)

Note that this list doesn't include raids, dungeons, regular mobs and new bosses; you'll find the latters mostly in World Events!

Foundational Improvements

A funny thing happens when you work on projects that are as old and large as Wynncraft, it's called: technological debt. Basically, it's when all the choices and mistakes you've made over the years start to slow you down, or flat out make some features impossible without refactoring that old foundational code.

It's somewhat of an unavoidable problem. This update, we've repaid a lot of that debt to be able to bring you all these new features. I'm only mentioning it here so that you know that, while some of what we show appear simple, they were in fact quite tricky to do at times. Wynncraft still partly runs on Minecraft 1.8 (a 10 years old version) in its backend, yet against all odds we're bringing a lot of modern features.

New Interfaces & Icons

  • Reworked the overall GUI style
  • Reworked the inventory GUI
  • Reworked the Hotbar GUI
  • Reworked the Blacksmith GUI
  • Reworked the Item Identifier GUI
  • Reworked the Trade Market GUI
  • Reworked the Bank GUI
  • Reworked the Content Book GUI
  • Reworked the Ability Tree GUI
  • Reworked the ESC Menu GUI
  • Reworked and improved various sprites
We have even more GUI reworks in the way! They'll come as separate updates in the future.

Misc. Small Feel Improvements

  • Running out of Sprint will no longer drain your Mana
  • Nametags no longer have a transparent box behind them
  • Nametags are now hidden when behind blocks
  • Nametags will adapt to the size of the mob and will be easier to see
  • Improved mob nametags
  • Improved quest tracking
  • Improved chat
  • Improved death messages
  • And more!

Music

We've made many improvements to our music system this update! The big one is that we can finally start using new custom instruments. We've started improving some of our songs to support those. Listen on our OST channel!

  • Added new instruments to some songs and improved them
  • Fixed various minor bugs about music
  • The music system will avoid restarting a song if you continually keep fading in and out of its region
  • Improved music timing. It's subtle, but songs should feel a little more consistent with their tempo

Death Experience

After being defeated, you will now have a moment to look around and see what killed you. Mobs will also sometimes have custom death messages.

Teleportation Scrolls

Teleportation Scrolls will no longer be a consumable. They instead have charges that refresh every 10 minutes. You no longer have to be far from mobs to use them. Instead, a 4 second countdown will start. Hold still until it reaches 0 to get teleported!

One detail to note about the new TP scrolls is that the charge amount and refresh timer is account-wide, not character-wide. This was done because, otherwise, fast travel would be too free and easy. Particularly to players with ranks.

Soul Points

Soul Points have been removed! Dying will now only make you drop ingredients and materials (unless you're a Hunted or Hardcore character). Soul Point Bombs have been transformed into Teleportation Scroll Charge Bombs, which will give +2 TP charges to everyone on the server when used.

Scrap

Scrap can no longer be obtained at the Blacksmith. You can now use emeralds or your previously-obtained scrap to repair your tools and items.

Dungeons

Most Dungeons will no longer require a quest to unlock them. We've updated all previous Dungeon quests slightly to reflect this change. To make up for it, these quests will now reward an additional Dungeon Boss Drop (e.g Witherhead's Rib) on top of a key.

And since we're increasing the overall game difficulty, we found it necessary to help y'all a little bit. Dying in a dungeon will bring you back to the beginning and give you a second chance for free. In addition to that, you will get another second chance when fighting the boss.

Here's the list of changes for each dungeon:

  • Decrepit Sewers (no quest req + second chance + reworked boss)
  • Infested Pit (no quest req + second chance + reworked boss)
  • Timelost Sanctum (no quest req + second chance)
  • Underworld Crypt (no quest req + second chance)
  • Sand-Swept Tomb (no quest req + second chance)
  • Ice Barrows (no quest req + second chance + reworked boss)
  • Undergrowth Ruins (no quest req + second chance + reworked boss)
  • Galleon's Graveyard (no quest req + second chance)
  • Fallen Factory (no changes)
  • Eldritch Outlook (reworked boss)

Tomes

Tomes are getting changed this update. As we've said previously, we are removing most Skill Point IDs from them. But we are also simplifying a few more things. The biggest of which is: removing their base stat increases.

Tomes will now only have regular IDs. Those base stats increases will be given out on a separate system that rewards you for completing any type of content in the Content Book. We'll talk about it more during the Beta, we're still working on it.

  • Removed Base Stat Increases
  • Removed most Skill Point IDs
  • Tome Slots now only have Combat Level requirements.
  • Tomes are now Untradable and no longer Soulbound. That means you can trade them across your own characters.

Raids

Raids were introduced in 1.20, and while they did a good job providing a new type of challenge for endgame teams, they had a few issues we wanted to address.

  • They follow the game's progression, leading to only 1 or 2 raids being relevant for endgame players at a time.
  • Queue time was high for the non-popular raids
  • Starting a Raid took effort and wasn't seamless
  • They were built using somewhat outdated tools, leading to an increase in bugs
  • It sometimes wasn't very clear what a challenge's objective was

Scaling Raids

We've seen you guys ask a lot of questions about scaling since we've revealed Rekindled World. Which is ironic as the system is meant to be nearly invisible. You'll barely notice it.

Contrary to previous scaling systems, such as corrupted dungeons, this one is fully client-sided and subtle about what it does. Mobs' damage and health will adjust individually for each player according to their combat level. This means a level 60 teaming up with a level 100 for the Nest of the Grootslang Raid will have about the same impact number-wise. A skilled player with a better build will still be more effective, but this will allow lower level players to still feel impactful.

Instruction rooms

Before entering a challenge room, the team will go through a small instruction room that will explain how the upcoming challenge works. The timer is stopped during that time, so there's no rush. You can learn at your own pace.

Raiding Silverbull Syndicate

Similar to the Lootrun Syndicate, defeating Raids will level up your Raiding Syndicate level and unlock new rewards and effects!

Contrary to the Lootrun Syndicate, you can actually Raid without signing up. However, once you reach Lv. 65, you will be forced to sign up before Raiding.

Silverbull Gambits

Raids are still too easy for you? Worry not, you can now enable Silverbull Gambits to increase the difficulty!

Gambits add limitations to your run and only affect yourself, not your team. They will challenge you to change your approach or even your build for increased rewards. They rotate daily.

Improved Party Finder

It's now a lot simpler to queue and start a Raid! In fact, it's now so seamless, the Party Finder NPC isn't even required. When attempting to start a Raid, the game will recognize if your team is missing players, and queue you automatically with others if so.

When queuing, you will be asked to select your Gambits and pay the entry fee immediately. After completing a Raid, the game will smartly put you back with your original party (if you had one) so you can all queue together again!

Raid Rewards

Raids will now have a rotating Loot Pool, similarly to Lootruns. You will gain Pulls as you progress through the Raid that will increase your reward at the end.
  • Regular Pulls will give out tomes, ingredients, items, emeralds and more
  • Aspect Pulls will give out a random Aspect
  • Raids no longer reward Runes

Aspects

Aspects are a brand-new type of rewards you can get from Raids. They buff your existing abilities, sometimes in significant ways. You can have up to 5 active at once, they are shared account-wide and take no inventory space.

Raids will rotate their Aspect rewards weekly. They can be upgraded simply by collecting more!

Guild Raiding

When each party member is from the same Guild, they will have the opportunity to start a Guild Raid. Guild Raids are the same as regular Raids, but have an even higher difficulty and rewards SR and Aspects for yourself and your guild! Raid completions will also be tracked guild-wide for the upcoming Guild Raid leaderboard.

Raid Improvements

All Raids:

  • Music transitions have been improved
  • Raids will give more rewards if you do not die during a challenge
  • Raids now have a clear time limit
  • Raids will show the amount of players it's waiting on when trying to advance to the next section
  • Improved Raid Buff Rooms
  • Raids will handle disconnects a lot better in general
  • Players cannot disconnect from an active Raid to join another world anymore.

Nest of the Grootslangs:
  • Now requires exactly 4 players in the party
  • Tower Room (Previously 3 Platforms): The tower spawn point will always be shown, instead of having 3 potential spawn points. Grootslang Whelps will assault the tower, knocking it down if not killed.
  • Egg Hold Room: Eggs will start to crack more often. Mobs will be constantly spawning, not only when a Toxic Slime isn't killed in time.
  • Resource Room: Merged into one room. The challenges are the Cannon Puzzle, the Slime Parkour, and a Miniboss.
  • Slime Carry Room: The slime is changed into a hammer, which has additional uses beyond breaking rocks. Only the hammer wielder can break the rocks blocking the path.
  • Miniboss Platforms Room: The party is now forced to split between the upper and lower areas at the start of the room, and can't swap between them freely.

Orphion's Nexus of Light:
  • Now requires exactly 4 players in the party
  • Decaying Clouds Hold Room: Removed.
  • Platform Hold Room: Mobs are more difficult.
  • Tower Room: The player carrying the Darkness Crystal glows purple.
  • Resource Room: Replaced the puzzle challenge with a new minigame
  • Invisible Maze Room: The maze now has checkpoints which when reached will require players to split up in order to reveal the next part of the path.

The Canyon Colossus:
  • Removed the 3 Platforms Hold room
  • Majorly restructured the order of the raid rooms. Listed in the order they appear in-game.
  • Lava Parkour Room (1a): Expanded the area with the lava flows to allow for better combat.
  • Two Platforms Hold Room (1b): Mobs are more difficult.
  • Maze Room (2a): Made the miniboss golems more difficult
  • Golem Room (2b): Entirely reworked. Escort golems through the canyon, defending them from enemies as they make a path forward for you.
  • Resource Room (3a): Entirely reworked. Takes place in front of the Canyon Colossus.

The Nameless Anomaly:
  • Berserker Berry Room: The berry holder can no longer use powder specials.
  • Stump Hold Room: The player holding the platform is bombarded with projectiles at all times. Void Holes will spawn even if nobody is on the platform. The Heart of Darkness is stronger, and does not directly prevent the platform from being held.
  • Dark Cave Room: The cave has been combined into one room, instead of three separate challenges. The parkour section has been removed. The Shadowlings and the Chiropterror are stronger.
  • Tree Room: The outer area has been expanded, and there are more Soul Shrub locations. Once a Soul Shrub is killed, it will not respawn until all other Soul Shrubs have been killed as well.
  • Capture the Bulb Room: There is now only one Blue Bulb to defend. Bulb Keepers spawn more often, and are stronger.
  • Void Matter Room: Once 4/5 Void Matter have been collected, the Void Hole spawners become unstable. They spawn enemies more rapidly, but are able to be killed to progress the waves.

Raid Bosses

It goes without saying, but we've also reworked every single Raid Boss. We won't spoil their fight too much, you'll have to try them out yourself!

  • Reworked the Grootslang boss fight
  • Reworked the Orphion boss fight
  • Reworked the Parasite boss fight
  • Reworked the Colossus boss fight
  • Reworked the Nameless boss fight

World Events

A brand-new content type: World Events!

World Events will sporadically start in various areas all over the world. Reach them before the timer hits 0 to fight waves of enemies and a boss! When it starts, you and your party will be your own instance and the event will be scaled to the highest level player in the party. The whole party wins as long as 1 player or more survives.

World Events are a great source of keys, runes and ingredients. They also give a significant amount of XP on your first completion. There's about 45 of them, good luck!

Major World Events

Once a week, Annihilation will emerge from the Corruption Portal near Detlas!

When a World Event starts, players will be brought into their own instance with their party for the fight. As fun as it sounds to pull 50 players vs Annihilation at once, we think it'd make the fight much too messy, laggy, and hard for us to balance appropriately. So you're limited by the max party size. The fight will still start all at once for everyone on all worlds.

New Content

You might notice there's a lack of new quests this update. It's because most of our efforts on that front are spent on the upcoming Fruma Province expansion.

However we still managed to add a few new things. New items, Major IDs, rebalance, Lootrun Missions and of course...

Canyon of the Lost Lootrun

A brand new Lootrun Camp has been added: The Canyon of the Lost Lootrun. Because of the region's size, only the South section is used.

We added Bantisu Air Boosters around the Canyon to assist with the Lootrun. These are unlocked after completing Canyon Guides, so you can utilize them outside of Lootruns as well to make traversal through the Canyon more fun.

Lootrun Random Events

Sometimes, during a Lootrun, a random event will trigger! Those can be minor annoyances, major helps, or anything in between.

Guilds

  • Improved Guild chat
  • Guilds will gain SR for completing Guild Raids
  • Increased the last, and maximum tax upgrade from 60% to 70%
  • Increased tomes from objectives completions (from 1/1/1 to 2/4/8)

New Items

This update, as is often common, brings new items! What is uncommon however, is the addition of new Mythics! It has been a little while since the last time we've done that. You'll find those in the Corrupted Cache rewarded for defeating Annihilation.

New Major IDs:
  • Seeking Module: Homing Shots track towards nearby enemies much more aggressively.
  • Insoluble: Dissolution lasts much longer, but no longer grants resistance.
  • Hurricane's Eye: Violent Vortex applies 2 marks to every enemy it hits.
  • Fallout: Bomb Arrow's blast becomes giant. Damage, self-damage, and recoil are severely increased.

  • Tackle: Flying Kick deals much more knockback and Collide deals much more damage on impact.
  • Lifestream: Increase blood sorrow's damage and overhealth, but shorten its duration
  • Efflorescence: Jasmine Bloom deals increased damage but requires more mana. Weightless grants 50% more mana.

  • Paragon: Shield Strike's damage is increased by 300%. Mantle of the Bovemist's cooldown is greatly reduced, but is limited to one shield charge.
  • Frenetic Spirit: Guardian Angels deal almost no damage but hit faster and expire much slower. Frenzy cap is increased to 125%.

Rekindled Beta

The Rekindled Beta will open later today around 6PM ET! Join our Discord to not miss it! You will be able to access it if you have a HERO Rank, CHAMPION Rank, Silverbull Subscription, or have purchased a Rekindled Bundle.

A few things to note about the beta:

  • It'll probably be buggy and laggy, especially early on
  • The Parasite fight isn't implemented yet
  • Silverbull Gambits are likely to be unbalanced and a bit buggy. Please give us your feedback on them!
  • The new models do not have all of the planned optimization improvements applied yet. This means that if you have a weak internet connection, your connection might lag more than usual. It's only temporary and won't be the case on release.
  • While we do plan to rebalance every mob, only mobs from level 1 to 85 and important bosses are rebalanced for now. We'll finish the rest during Beta. Still do report balance issues, it'll help a lot.
  • Not all GUIs will be implemented right away
  • The Canyon Colossus won't be available right away, we're still finishing up a few things for it!
  • Some rewards for Annihilation aren't implemented.
  • Some of the Guild changes aren't implemented yet

Submit bugs here!

Please avoid using mods when testing on the beta. Especially Wynncraft-related mods such as Wynntils. We expect the beta to last about a month.

We'll post the official date once we're confident on our Discord. Join to not miss out!
