The Salvo Day Use Area, located just south of Salvo, is a spacious public access area for the Pamlico Sound. This park features a beautiful and clean beach with plenty of sitting areas to enjoy the sunset or explore inlets and waterways by kayaking or canoeing. The bathhouse, picnic tables, grills, and huge parking lot provide ample space for visitors to relax and take in the peaceful surroundings.

Peaceful. Quiet. Water isn't too deep(comes up to my knees)perfect for kids who want to swim.

Sir Steve — Google review

Nice and quiet place to chill out if you don't want to get beat to death by the ocean waves. Kid and handicapped friendly. Watch out for the sand burrs and you'll be fine. (can't hold the sand burrs against them.... that's just part of going to the OBX)

Snarky Tart — Google review

Love this area when we want to watch a great sunset. We will even travel from Avon where we stayed, just to relax there and enjoy the views.

Edward Sneed — Google review

Great spot to catch the sunset! Popular spot for kitesurfers, kyaking, and watersports of all kinds. The water is shallow and calm which us great for young ones. There are grills and picnic tables spread throughout for anyone to use. Also, it is accessible by foot or bike using the sidewalk/multi use path along highway 12 in Salvo. The bathhouse has bathrooms, changing room, and a wash off area.

Taylor Jones — Google review

Watch the wind surfers! This Day use area used to be a campground next to the beach. Now, its an oval drive with a huge playfield, and a nice beach that attracts some of the best wind surfers in the world. Pull up and relax. Watch the waves and enjoy the skill of the wind surfers as they do their thing. Take a picnic! There are great restroom facilities here too. The Salvo cemetery is also located on the grounds -- please be respectful to the graves of those who have gone before us.

Mike Longenbaker — Google review

This place is beautiful at sunset! The silhouette pictures you get during this time are so fun! The beach area is clean and the sound is very shallow, so it’s perfect for small kids. The water is warm though, so not very refreshing. There is an old family cemetery too but do not disturb it. There is a fence around it. Beautiful area to picnic. We come every year to watch the wind surfers. There is a public bath house too!

A Wanderlust Mama — Google review

I think I posted pictures here last year during the tropical storm when the Sound was empty. Great hidden spot outside of Salvo. Great Sound access and plenty of parking. I can always find clean open restrooms.

Steve Lawrence — Google review

This is a wonderful best kept secret kind of spot! A neat little park tucked out of the way just outside of Salvo. It has a primitive style restroom, two changing rooms, four grills and some picnic tables. There's a small beach and since this park is on the sound side, the water is only waist deep for at least a couple hundred yards out. What this location lacks in amenities it makes up for in it's hidden charm.

Jason VP — Google review

Great place to watch the sun set. Easy parking. Small sandy beach with shallow water and no waves. Kid and pet friendly.

Tanya Hauth — Google review

This park has been a highlight of our trip. Water and beach is beautiful and clean, several places to sit as well. Absolutely perfect for SUP, water is not deep at all and kids can play safely compared to the ocean. Wonderful place for sunset's and photography in general.

Rosemarie Lynn — Google review

Great place for young kids, paddleboarding kayaking and fishing. Water is no deeper than 4 feet anywhere.

Museums

Replica 1874 station house displaying paintings, pottery, woodwork & glass by regional artists.

This is a lovely gallery that has some wonderful pieces from many artists. The collection is well curated and the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Many local and regional artists work are sold in this store.Currently, this store is asking that patrons continue to wear masks and use hand sanitizer when they come into the store to protect patrons and the staff. Otherwise with multiple customers it is very tight so it would be difficult to distance. Will be back to visit this lovely gallery when put on the OBX in the future!

Millie Kwan — Google review

Beautiful gallery with extremely friendly staff! I’m no ‘arty’ but I thoroughly enjoyed the collection and encouraged my wife who is a photographer to bring some home with us! Great way to kill some time and admire many varying talents on a cold rainy day!

James Lytle — Google review

Awesome little place! Cool afternoon activity. Not the best for children since lots of art that can be bumped are populating the building. Really cool photography for sale here. I really enjoyed my time there and bought 2 pieces to take home to display, I would love to come back someday!

Jacob Kozlek — Google review

Such a fun, whimsical shop to visit! Always something new to look at or purchase. Have never been disappointed with my treasures or gifts purchased! I always recommend this gallery to anyone asking for favorite places to visit!

Jonanna Stakem — Google review

Loved this place. Beautiful local artists goods. Lovely owners. We have been to outer banks 3 times and this was a first for this place. I will definitely return. Beautiful and reasonably priced goods! Thank you

Deborah Anderson — Google review

My Mother and Father have been bringing me to the outer banks my whole life and it's fun as an adult to see the tradition carried on. You cannot miss this authentic art gallery. The operators are talented creators and they maintain an intimate knowledge of the pieces displayed.

Daniel Lee — Google review

Great place with a ton of selection. A mix of local artists, fellow North Carolinians, and others from Canada to NYC.

Darren Hoevel — Google review

Such a lovely gallery, the sweetest owner, and was incredibly informative about the artist she carries. Incredible pieces, so tasteful and the mixed medium art was sublime. Please help support this local establishment. Such a pleasurable experience.

Michael J. Reilly III — Google review

Fantastic. 26 artists represented, all beautifully displayed. A wonderful gallery. If I had one complaint is that the open hours are limited. We wanted to purchase a piece of pottery on our last day but they were not open. Our fault!

kalim owens — Google review

Excellent experience with Island Cruisers! Smooth booking from start to finish. Was able to book the same day we needed it and they had the cart at our campsite within 30 min of informing them that we arrived. I had a question about the cart and they actually showed up to the campsite to walk me through my question. 100% plan on renting from them again and will recommend them to friends/family. Thanks again for the great experience!

Couldn’t ask for a better experience!! Valerie and Eric were so welcoming and helpful!! Would definitely recommend!!

Chelsie Bard — Google review

Sorry for the delay in posting this-Mid July 2017 my family and I were camping in our travel trailer at Camp Hatteras. On our departure day I was hooking up to my trailer and my brake pedal went to the floor and I immediately realized I blew a brake line. I called 5 Auto shops in the area and no one would be able to even look at it for 3-5 days. I then got on the phone and called Auto parts places in Buxton Nc and found they had brake lines and I would do the work myself at the campground.I then needed a way to get to the auto parts store 30 miles away. I called Island Cruisers and I told them my issue and I wasn't going to be sight seeing, just needed a vehicle to get parts. They gave me a discounted rate and told me the vehicle would be ready in 2 hours.About 10 minutes later, the Owner, Eric called me and said he may have brake lines in his shop that may work for me. He said he would pick me up if needed. Instead I decided I needed the exercise and I rode my Bike there. He had the brake line I needed and he even called Napa to make sure he wasn't overcharging me.I asked if I could borrow a couple line wrenches to get the job done, without hesitation he went to his tool box and handed me the tools and told me to bring it back whenever I was done. Before I left his wife (Evelyn) said she was on her way to Camp Hatteras to pick up customers and said she could give me a ride back. I told her thanks, but I needed the exercise and rode my bike back. The line fit and I was back rolling-The moral of this story is it's hard to find people like Eric and Evelyn in this world. It's too easy for people to just say "it's not my problem" and let me deal with my issues. Even though they were busy with rental customers, they still went out of their way to assist me and make sure I could get back on the road.I will definitely be doing Business with Island Cruisers in the futureAnd again Thanks!!

RW ALLEN — Google review

The easiest process ever. Called when we got to the campground with our site number & they were there within an hour to deliver the golf cart & picked up the morning we left. Very friendly & the golf carts were always in great condition. We’ve used them 2 times in the past month & will use them every time we go back to the KOA! Thank you!!

Gena Leitch — Google review

The best car rental place by far around the outer banks. Friendly, helpful, and extremely reasonable. If your looking this is the place to grab a cruiser, to enjoy the beautiful outer banks.

D Crum — Google review

Very happy. Met the owner and his wife. They’re cool, he’s got a serious passion for this. He does all his own repairs and maintenance. While there may seem a lot of rules, it’s important that you follow them even if you don’t understand why. Simple reason is, if you don’t it will cost him time, and he’ll probably lose more than what your security deposit is worth. He spends 15 hours a day in his service bay keeping up with the maintenance and repairs during the season. If I lived here, I’m certain we’d become good friends.I rented a gmc suburban diesel. It’s old. It’s got character. But it starts every time and works as advertised.

Karl Vesterling — Google review

Island cruisers was awesome! I stopped in to see what was available and was pleased to learn that they had a 6 seat E car. I had no reservations and it was 4th of July week, maybe dumb luck but I'll take it. The cart was insane! Bluetooth speaker that thumped, LEDs all over it, decent battery life. We had an absolute blast riding around, watching fireworks, and blasting music.

Ian Foehr — Google review

Wouldn't recommend the "street legal buggies." Family wouldn't leave the neighborhood because they were genuinely worried about the safety of the buggy. Took it up the road 1/8 total trip and after it sat in the yard for the rest of the trip. Also after seeing the few pictures online, what showed up definitely left a lot to be desired.

Colby Pittman — Google review

What a wonderful family, and even better experience. Quick, responsive , professional, and KIND. Made the entire process so easy. Delivered a cart to our campsite, worked great, then they picked it up. Can't ask for anymore!

Heather Dynes — Google review

We rented a Street legal golf cart and had a great experience. The cart with the extra storage in the trunk was extremely useful in taking items too and from the beach. The owner was more than accommodating. Would highly recommend.

Joshua Kramer — Google review

These folks are fantastic. They arrived with a golf cart in excellent condition at our campsite on time. Price is fair, golf cart is terrific, service is great.

David Brodeur-Johnson — Google review

This is our second year renting a golf cart from Island Cruisers in the Outer Banks and there's no one else I would rent from! When you call you get a friendly voice right away ready to help. They are very professional and courteous and take care of you. They deliver and pick up right when they say they will. The carts are in great shape and work very well. The whole process is perfect and pricing is reasonable. Thank you for another great experience!

Jeremy Fisher — Google review

Great customer service. Appreciated the advance email communications. Once we had rental had a question which received a prompt reply. Plus it was fun to cruise around Salvo and Wave and our in a GEM.

I took two lessons at the Real surf school in late April, and had an incredibly positive experience. I was a little nervous going in because I am still a beginner surfer, but ended up having the best time. The coaches are professional, welcoming and safety-conscious. They really know how to teach: I picked things up in my sessions that would have taken me ages to figure out on my own.My partner took some foiling and kiting lessons and had a similarly excellent experience.10/10, 100% recommend. We plan to go back.

Sarah T. — Google review

Went here for a new surfboard....they have an excellent website that shows what is in stock, and believe me, it's pretty insane! I was worried the size I wanted wasn't available, as the models on the floor were smaller than desired. No problem..... they went in the back and brought out the two I wanted to check out.....which matched exactly to what the website showed! Photos too!Chris helped me out and in 1 hour I had my new board, traction pad, new wetsuit and other gear. Its been a while since I've purchased a new board, but this was by far the best experience I've ever had! I drove 5 hours and it was def worth it!They have an immense selection of whatever you may need. Great pricing, too! 🍻🤙

John Price — Google review

Straight up paradise for all watermen! Best selection of surf, kite and foil gear on the planet and their knowledgeable staff of rippers offer top notch customer service.

John Ragozzino — Google review

Real SUP foil rental experience: this is a very fast 144L prototype carbon fiber board. *Need I say more?*Counter guys helpful, informative, and stoked me up!Foil screw installation hiccup: had to put the nut on the screw 1 thread then slide into box in 1 piece.Effortless paddling out.I got 2 knee rides (cuz anything takes more than once to get good) It's main use is downwind SUP foiling.Very cool I got a novel experience on vacation.

Holly — Google review

Great prices and fast shipping. I like the no plastic solid packaging for the board. Came in the via FED EX early with no damage. Can't wait to get it on the water. This is my 2nd board from REAL and I will continue to purchase more.

Chris M — Google review

The shop, location and staff are awesome! Ramsey talked with us answering our questions about kites, wings, etc. I had bought some items on the website and the site is well laid out, easy to navigate, and there's a lot of products. Their prices are better than similar shops. That being said, going to the store is a great experience. You can get hands on with products you can't do online and the staff are very helpful (both online and in-store). Can't wait to go back once the weather is warmer!P.S. Plus it's in Waves, NC (next to Rodanthe) so what's not to like? A must-see shop.

Chris A — Google review

Took a lesson here today and Noah was an excellent surf instructor. The ocean was rough and Noah was really in control. He made me and my brother-in-law feel safe. Was super fun and will definitely be getting a lesson here again!

Jeff Schofield — Google review

Real Watersports is great. I've ordered many boards and foil gear from them and all of it has been shipped promptly and well packaged for the shipping to the West Coast. No hassles, No worries.Update: Just received an AppleTree Pro V2 Foil board from Real. Awesome customer service!

Alex Viera — Google review

I’d give it more stars if I could 5 is not enough!!! 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 Jeff and his team of surf camp counselors were a very energetic, supportive, positive and knowledgeable group! My 11 year old has done a surf camp every year and after 3 days with those guys he already wants to do the same camp a few more weeks this summer. Furthermore, he brought a friend who was a first time surfer and a bit nervous in the beginning. . Jeff and his team approached his hesitant/uneasy feelings about the unknown sport with no pressure, happy lightheartedness and by the end of the 3 days he was also catching waves!! Not to mention they actively took a water break, snacks were provided and they played games on the beach between surfing!!! Personally, I have 3 kids who all have different interests so I’ve seen a fair share of camps from a couple hours a day to week long hours away overnight camps & hands down this was phenomenal. It is RARE you get an experience like the one you get with Real Watersports surf crew. 10 outta 10! Yeeeewwwwww!

Samantha Tillett — Google review

Great shop staffed by genuine, thoughtful people. I haven’t bought a non-longboard board in decades and Randall spent almost an hour listening to my “surf history” and helping me understand what kind of modern board might work well for my skill level and target waves. I left paying a fair price for my new board and felt good that I got the right board for me.

Matt Welch — Google review

Ordered a 2023 12m North Orbit through international shipping to Canada. Had a bit of a hiccup with Fedex but when I reached out to REAL they were able to get in touch with Fedex to fix any problems and had it promptly on its way.Everything arrived in perfect condition, had a nice protective barrier in the cardboard box under the tape which ensured customs didn't destroy the contents while opening it.Customer service was top tier, responded anytime I reached out to them within the same day.

Tyler Olson — Google review

Thank you for the most incredible day of surf lessons. The booking was seamless - they responded quickly and answered questions throughly. Their service went above and beyond. They pivoted the plan to a new location the morning of the lessons to have a safer and better experience. The instructors were professional, extremely capable, had very impressive skills individually and were all excellent teachers - plus they were fun!! It was an epic day! I highly recommend Real Watersports! Thank you for the fantastic experience and memories.

Alissa Flota — Google review

I recently took an advanced kite lesson at Real and I can not express enough how much it has improved my progression. My instructors name was Aaron Robert’s. This guy is an incredible coach with a good eye! I was having difficulty landing higher 15ft+ jumps and after watching my first attempt Aaron immediately made multiple corrections. Board position. Body position how far the bar should be pulled in and when and of course where the kite should be and when. We were out in 28-32 mph and we were flying by the end of my session landing as soft as you’ve seen anyone. I wasn’t 100% still need to get the timing down but easily landed more than half my jumps and I was pumped after that session. Next step. Looping!

Rami Saleh — Google review

I was trying to decide on a Groveler to go with for summer waves. Ramsey assisted through the online chat and was super helpful. Ended up going with his recommendation (white Tiger) and couldn’t be happier. The board showed up in two days and was in mint condition. I will 100% be buying all my boards from Real moving forward!

Bobby Liess — Google review

We had the vacation of a lifetime! These guys are a world class operation. We stayed in one of the cabanas across the road from Real HQ and spent every day either with lessons, hanging out at Waterman's, or visiting local kite and surf spots. The coaches were fantastic and we got so much out of their instruction. I can't recommend them enough. We look forward to visiting again next year (or sooner!).

Tim T — Google review

I found the board I was looking for online then spoke with Travis at the shop to make sure I was making the right decision. He also helped me pick out the right set of fins. Super helpful and knowledgeable and a great all around experience. Shipping was quick and the board arrived early without a scratch.

This was my initial experience riding a JetSki, and it was an exhilarating time! I rented two JetSkis for my father and myself, allowing us to have our two children on the back. The lady at the rental building was exceptionally kind and friendly, while the man providing instructions on how to ride them was informative and pleasant. The only drawback was the lack of clarity regarding return time.

Did several 1 hour rentals of the jet skis. Everyone was friendly. It was fun. Our 4 year old loved it!

C. — Google review

This was the first time I have ever driven a JetSki, and it was a blast! I rented two jet skis for my father, and I to drive with my two children on the back. The lady in the building that we signed up and rented the JetSki’s from was extremely kind and friendly and the man who gives directions and explains how to ride them was also very informative and nice. The only negative is that you don’t really know when you need to return. You rent them for an hour and there’s nothing showing you when it’s time to come back in. It would be great if they had some type of flag system that they would change the color of the flag to let you know when it’s time to return.

Mary Ostrander — Google review

Great experience. I'm glad they recommended the wet suit rental from up the road for the colder day. Had a great time out on the water, plenty warm, and it was fun to watch all the kite surfers from on the water. Instructions were easy to follow, and Jet Ski ran great!!

bill womer — Google review

Brought my wife and 8yr old son out for some jet ski fun. Ed set us up on brand new jet skis and instructed us like a true professional. Super affordable family fun, everyone should do this if you are on vacation in Hatteras. Easy access right off highway 12 and quick to get on the water and off, just a wonderful day on the water!

Rick Drum — Google review

Sabrina and Ed were so welcoming and Ed is great at explaining what you need to know about the equipment. Very down to earth people would recommend a vist on your vacation.

We decided to rent at 6:30 and were so glad they stay open late. The staff are great, great area to ride the skis (very large), and amazing ride from afternoon sun to sunset. Great family run operation.

Great time & instructor, really took great care to help make sure we had best time.

Allie Pisack — Google review

Owners were extremely welcoming and sincere. Jetski ran as it should. All my expectations were met, and my children and I (5, 13, 13) had a blast! We would patronize this establishment any time!

Andrea Paolucci — Google review

Incredible teacher! I've taken lessons elsewhere before and no one has ever explained things the way Ed did. He had me up on the board super fast and was behind me on the jet ski so the whole time. Very encouraging and knowledgeable. Would HIGHLY recommend him if you really want to learn to kiteboard.

Lindsay Stokes — Google review

The owner was pretty accommodating and laid back. Best Jetski experience yet. Priced right, girlfriend loved it, definitely recommend.

Joshua Pierce — Google review

Very informative and flexible company. They accommodated our very large group without any problem. They know their stuff when it comes to jetskis and gave a very thorough safety review. The staff has thought of everything that could happen and even provided waterproof phone covers. Pro-tip: fill out waivers and liability forms ahead of time as it’s all electronic and you’ll be able to get along much quicker.

These guys were awesome. The boat was nice and they were very friendly and informative. The kids had an amazing time and we couldn’t have picked a more perfect day for it. We will definitely rent here every time we are in the area.

chris isbell — Google review

Was very happy with our rental. The pontoon was clean and ready for us when we got there. The gentleman who showed us the boat was very helpful and showed us how to use everything and what to do if we needed help. Would 100% use Charlies again for our boat rental!

Aaron Festog — Google review

Absolutely superb experience(s); we rented twice! The first day we had a larger boat with 11 people; the second day a smaller boat with 8… plenty of room both days. Both boats were immaculately clean, comfortable and perfectly maintained. The bimini provided shade for those so inclined. Jacob was warm and friendly and gave great instructions and safety briefing. Dropping anchor to lunch/swim/lounge in hammocks was so much fun. Definitely the highlight(s) of our week in Salvo!

BHE 54 — Google review

10-1-21 In the last two weeks we rented a 19’ skiff for 2-½ days. It was great! Charlie’s hooked us up! We rented it for 2 days and then came back the following week and rented it for another half day. They were super easy to deal with. Got us on the boat and showed us all the safety equipment and how to get back to the dock safely. Dock was in great shape. Boats were in great shape and customer service was top notch. Highly recommend and will be coming back. We caught a bunch of speckled trout which was what we came for! Thanks Charlie’s!

We had an AMAZING time out on the pirate themed tiki boat! The kids LOVED the inflatable water slide and the water cannons! The staff was super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The tiki boat was clean and it had an awesome speaker we could Bluetooth or music to!They have the perfect location to tie the boat off and it was just a perfect day for our family! We also rented a pontoon which was also clean and well maintained. If we venture back down to OBX we will definitely rent from Charlie’s again!

christiana alstatt — Google review

We had a great time with the skiff rental (Flat & Fast). Picking up the boat was easy and staff were friendly. The only downside to the rental was the $120 fuel fee added at checkout. I have no problem refilling what we used but we only used about a 1/4 tank of gas. Had we used a full tank I would have no problem with the fee! Other than that it was a good experience.

Desiree Lee — Google review

This was our second year returning to Charlie’s. The owner and employees are so nice and welcoming. We had a blast riding the jet skis. Next year we may try renting a boat. Would highly recommend and will go back again.

Andrea Obleas — Google review

My 18 year old friend and I rented out a jet ski to share, it was the best experience of our lives. Everyone here is so kind, and the hour feels like forever when you’re going at that speed. The jet skis themselves were super clean and simple to drive, and within 2 minutes you’ll be out zooming like a pro. Thank you again, Charlie’s Watersports, for the 10/10 experience!

AMANDA KHONG — Google review

This place was so amazing! We rented a tiki boat and they towed us to a sandbar where we went on the water slide and swam and drank and just had a blast. And they couldn’t have been more welcoming - even rescheduled for us when it was raining! Definitely would do this again.

David Borak — Google review

Great place to fish while in Rodanthe area. No fishing license needed; pier pass fee covers it! Can also walk the pier for a nominal fee. Little store has souvenirs, clothing, drinks, snacks, bait, and fishing gear. You can also rent fishing poles. Nice place to visit throughout the day.

Found this pier by accident and so glad that I did. The only pier that is very welcoming of dogs and overall had a friendly atmosphere by both the people running it and those also on the pier. The views were great and a lot of benches for both those who want to fish or just enjoy the ocean. The price to walk out on the pier was about $2, which is a lot less considering what some of the other piers cost.Only thing that I would mention is that the parking lot could use better maintenance, but overall it is a great place for a quick visit and an out of the way spot.

How can you not love a pier over the ocean?? The sunlight on a February day is AWESOME!!

lisaryan62 — Google review

Excellent place to sit and unwind during a hot summer's day!! Also good for the sunrise on the Atlantic Ocean. Great fishing and cold beer!

Gallo Pinto — Google review

This pier is always a fun place to fish. The sunsets can be amazing and I love how it is open late. I also love the t shirt designs they have and how they have a huge selection.

Alyssa Householder — Google review

Didn't even make it out on the pier before we encountered a sign that says no braided line. They were quick to offer having our lines restrung with mono. Considering we're only here for a day, that's a hard pass. We've literally fished from coast to coast and never heard of such an absurd policy until now.

Jenn Jenn — Google review

Quaint and cute. Not sure how it is in high season but very quiet this time of year with really only fisherman and the occasional tourist driving through the obx.

Amber Fitzpatrick — Google review

Excellent pier was just 4 mins from the place we rented. Will be back next year when we come back to OBX again for vacation. One day of catch included sheepshead, pin fish, red drum, black drum, blow toad. Good variety. Wait for mackerels to come and they can be caught on this pier as well. Staff was nice and friendly. Side joke if he reads this review "squish". I highly recommend not skipping this pier if your in the area.

Joseph Seechang — Google review

Awesome shop and tackle rod and reel rental with all the essentials you need for your vacation. The lady that runs the store is super nice. So thankful for the bathrooms and parking.

Great for pictures or doing a little fishing off the pier. They have a nice store for fishing supplies, tee shirts, or some delicious ice cream.

Excellent shop to get everything from cool t-shirts to Yeti coolers. Then there is the great kiteboard shop selling a large selection of Kiteboard, kites, wetsuits and harnesses. They also have a terrific kiteboarding school.

I took an E-Foil lesson with these guys about a month ago. Let me tell you it was one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had! My instructor, Chad, was very helpful and helped me get to my feet very quickly. I recommend E-Foil lessons for anyone who loves board sports and is looking for something unlike anything else out there. For beginners: it’s not overly complicated, even if you’re on your stomach the whole time you will still have a blast! Thank you Kitty Hawk Kites!!

Museum

Sights & Landmarks

The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site is a museum situated in the Outer Banks that focuses on the equipment and history of maritime rescue. The former station and its outbuildings have been converted into exhibits with hands-on displays showcasing actual artifacts used by the coast guard. Visitors can learn about magnificent rescues and the origins of the coast guard while exploring different buildings such as The Tower. Knowledgeable volunteers provide tours which even teenagers can enjoy, making it a great landmark for all to visit.

I love visiting these old places, much like visiting old fire stations. You can tour the various structures as well as the main building. There is a list of ships and models of the wrecks nearby, especially the ship sunk by a U-boat in WW1 with a fantastic rescue of most of the crew, as well as the WW2 U-boat sinking with no survivors but bodies recovered and buried here with military honors in the US. There is also a long film of the lifesaving station but we had no time to stay and watch it. This place is a great tribute to the old Life Saving Service, the Coast Guard and even similar services like the Royal Lifeboat Service. Anyone interested in the history of ship wreck rescues or even the Coast Guard should stop here. There is even a neat gift shop with a varitey of books.

Robert Lanious — Google review

Went to the first rescue reenactment of the year. This is a really cool thing to see and the guys doing it were great. Will answer all your questions after the demonstration is done. Really awesome piece of history.

Patrick Harnan — Google review

This was a wonderful place to visit while vacationing on Hatteras Island. We drove 30 miles to visit, and it was worth it! There's so much history preserved and presented in a wonderful way. There is an entry fee. It's a self-guided tour starting with a video and a brochure full of facts about the different sections of the museum.

Janet Spicer — Google review

Great landmark. Volunteers were great and extremely knowledgeable. Even my teenagers enjoyed the tour.

Josh Canulli — Google review

Excellent history & information given by the speaker (Capt. Chuck)! We loved the rescue reenactment & explanation of all the equipment they used to use. Thank you to all!!

Linda Price — Google review

We landed up here on a whim, and ended up in a field trip with an group of 4th graders. Not only was the tour super educational and entertaining, but it felt good to feel like I was on a field trip again. Lol. This place is definitely worth checking out. I'm just bummed that I didn't pick up one of the local books!

Chrissy Eslinger — Google review

Great thing to do while at the Outer Banks. I learned a lot about the origins of the coast guard here plus magnificent rescues. The Tower was a great experience and will be remembered. Lots of information and hands-on exhibits in different buildings. Interesting to see the actual artifacts talked about in the museum located on the property.

Nathan Sikes — Google review

So interesting and what a fascinating history!! The guys that were part of the Life-Saving Service were heros and just amazing. You need to visit the station.... its just amazing what those guys had to do and did!!!

Rena Correia — Google review

Small but excellent museum with knowledgeable, friendly staff.Very nice displays, actual items from the period, great history of the service and people who served.I highly recommend a visit!

G Hammer — Google review

Fascinating place with the history of coastal lifesaving efforts, photos, memorabilia and depictions of what life was like. The heroes of the American shores. Staff was helpful with additional stories and information. We got there an hour before they closed, but could have stayed longer.

Beth Fleming Allen — Google review

This lifesaving station is a MUST stop! Spend 1-3 hours there depending on how deep you want to go. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and the exhibits are good. This place documents the important history of the lifesaving service along the Atlantic coast, which eventually became the US Coast Guard. the kids will entire the view from the top of the building!

Mike Longenbaker — Google review

A must-see on your way to the Cape Hatteres Light house. An interagerl piece of history documenting the effort to save lives, just as important as the light houses. Thousands of historical artifacts from the Lyle Gun (Cannon) to breeches used to rescue seaman from clutches of death in the Graveyard of the Atlantic.

Patrick Farmer — Google review

Very unpleasant atmosphere by the staff (of one) who on approach seemed reluctant, maybe hesitant to see my family enter this establishment. The attendant quoted us anIncorrect fair for my group of 9 by $10 extra dollars. And when my elderly aunt asked if there were public restrooms for her to use. The attendant, before responding, paused & looked and said, “…no”. Which seems odd where there are 5 buildings within this attraction, there aren’t any public restrooms to use…? Surely there must be?or maybe they’re weren’t restrooms for US to use. It’s sad that some people are ignorant & small minded with their racism to those look differently than them. They lost our business today. Sad.

Danielle Elizabeth — Google review

Great small museum featuring a lovingly restored and maintained Life Saving Station(s). The Life Saving Service has a proud and interesting history in our nation and this is a great example of the stations that once were all along the east coast and some inland waters. Many have been lost to time, but this one has all of the original equipment and a volunteer staff dedicated to keeping this history alive.

Mia Corinha — Google review

Nice place with a video telling you about the history. Can tour almost all over the property and they have really nice staff that'll share details about the history of the area and the facility. They offered a military discount on admission tickets.

Sarah Wolf — Google review

Neat little side stop on the way to Hatteras. Place where they housed the life saving sailors before the Coast Guard was imagined. Can't fathom doing the things they did to save people. Have them talk about the place, very knowledgeable. Only down was the mosquitoes, they are hungry.

Outdoor Activities

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, situated at the northern edge of Hatteras Island, is a renowned destination for birdwatchers. It provides educational opportunities and a chance to observe migratory and endangered bird species. While not part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, visitors can launch watercraft at the New Inlet Parking Lot located near the bridge connecting Bodie and Hatteras Islands. Despite being closed due to bridge construction for several years, it reopened in December 2019.

Beautiful solitude in winter. Have visited in the summer many times and finally got to experience the multitude of birds in the "dead" of winter. I sat in solitude except for the many thousands of geese, ducks and myriad other birds, for hours the only person in sight. It was very beautiful and humbling experience as the sun set over the pond and sound with the only sound that of the snow geese making a soft conversation that was simply soothing to the mind and soul.

Michael Harris — Google review

Love this place! As part of the Blue Goose Passport program we stopped here on our way back to Corolla from Cape Hatteras. There was a really nice lady there who helped us spot some birds out on the water. The visitors center is small but they have a nice gift shop. There is a boardwalk that we would’ve loved to have navigated but I depend on a scooter and the entrance to the boardwalk was covered in sand. I wish they would keep that clear so everyone can enjoy it. That’s the only reason they lost a star from me.

Cat Lady — Google review

Great place!First nice place to take a driving break. Very awesome beach access across the street.Bathroom break are too.And there's a bird sanctuary with a huge walk way all the way around. There's a store and a ranger station here as well.

Dean Stobinski — Google review

Worth a stop. We attempted to do the North Pond Wildlife Trail which is listed a wheelchair accessible, however, the beginning of the trail was not maintained, there were large piles of sand on the boardwalk which did not allow my stroller to get onto the trail. I assume some wheelchairs might also have struggles getting onto the trail. We carried the stroller and baby a bit until we reached a section that was not covered in sand. We didn't walk long but the part of the trail we did see was beautiful. Everything was flat, but the scene was peaceful.

Christine DeVose — Google review

We did a 1/2 mile hike and saw some wildlife along. Great place to watch birds, too. The lady at the visitor center was very nice and informative. They have restrooms across from the parking lot. The area is not pet friendly.

Jyoti Daniel — Google review

This has amazing sunset view and sand dunes give so much time for family and kids to have fun. Loved our experience here. If you get lucky you might get a view of dolphins, seagulls and even whale! I need to find the video went we went a few years back. We did get lucky spotting whale and group of dolphins. There is public restroom available.Be careful as it gets windy road can get plenty of sand too. Some places can have so much sand that it’s hard to turn around. Our car did get stuck in sand dune as we were turning to return back. We are so grateful just then two gentleman showed up in their truck and helped us get out of quick sand.It was very generous of them, right around the thanksgiving of 2021

Amazing natural beach area with multitudes of opportunities to access and enjoy the Outer Banks in near-pristine form! There are several beach ramps and parking areas on both the beach and sound sides. Some access points have facilities such as port-o-potties and trash bins. A highlight is the historic Bodie Island Lighthouse. The bridge over Oregon Inlet has one of the best panoramic views on the OBX.

LR P — Google review

I came to see the sunset at pea island. It was so incredibly beautiful. I have been to jockeys ridge before and it is also gorgeous for a sunset. These are the pictures I took. It’s definitely something you need to see!

Lexia Wingler — Google review

Pea Island’s absolutely breathtaking! The nature preserve was lovely and teeming with life. The brackish water was filled with all kinds of turtles and water fowls with their babies. The trail was a lovely walk, however, I do recommend bringing some sort of bug repellant when going during warmer weather as the bugs will literally eat you alive. There’s a small viewing deck with a binocular contraption but it’s a bit scratched up to really see anything. The beach across the nature preserve was surprisingly empty but you can walk the entire sand bar if you wanted to.I recommend this place to everyone! You would not be disappointed.

Wakanda Forever — Google review

Great for a day at the beach. Never crowded, a few parking access points with trails over the dunes. Beach is rather coarse, lots of broken shells. Definitely not a soft, fine powder sand experience, but the lack of people makes it peaceful!

Radcliffe Brown — Google review

This place is for the birds! And nature lovers! And peaceful walks! And turtle lovers! And tree lovers! And lovers of quick beach access! And most all other things! It's an awesome way to submerge yourself in nature, lovely sitting areas, great views with sightseers along the way, and if you get a chance, so into the visitors center/shop and talk to the lovely staff and learn about the shipwreck you'll see from the beach!

heather medwid — Google review

Excellent trails and views. Turtle pond had at least seven turtles visible, including a huge old grandad!

•We visited on a Thursday morning in late December 2023 (after Christmas).•We stopped by while traveling from Hatteras Light Station to Bodie Light Station.•This stop was totally worth it. The parking lot was kind of small (maybe hold 20 cars max) and there were maybe 4 or 5 spots left when we arrived.•Many of the people try to cross the dunes on the other side of the road (not sure if you’re supposed to be doing that anyways) but the real gem is out back into the bay.•The visitor center is fairly large for a Wildlife Refuge and the store takes up about 1/3 of the area too. They had a bunch of merch and ones specific for pea island but also for 3 or 4 other Wildlife Refuges in the area.•They had a few small exhibits and a few scopes to look out the large bank of back windows in the center.•The Blue Goose Cancellation Stamp is located to the left of the door when you walk into the visitor center. At the time of our visit they were sold out of the Blue Goose Books. We’ve only seen these at like 4 or 5 of the 2 dozen-ish National Wildlife Refuges we’ve visited. If you are interested in them, the NC National Wildlife Refuge Gateway Visitor Center in Manteo had a few in stock.•At the other end of the parking lot (also where the bathrooms are located), there is trail that leads all the way out into the bay with a overlook/observation deck. We only went about halfway as we were on a schedule. There were several other groups hiking the trail as well. Bring your binoculars. There were a few birds even for this time of year we visited. We also spotted a snapping turtle in the pond near the bathroom.•We would definitely visit again and do the trail out back to the overlook. Worth the stop for sure. If it was this crowded on a weekday in December I can only imagine what it would be like in the warmer seasons.

David Lieu — Google review

I had no idea one could observe wildlife like this in the Outer Banks. To see these birds in their natural habitat was pretty awesome. We were watching them through telescopes and binoculars. Afterwards we walked across the street to the beach and picked up seashells. What an amazing find just south of Kill Devils Hill.

Leonard Caponegro — Google review

Great place for birdwatching! The North Pond Wildlife Trail is very accessible, even for casual folks that just want to take a quick stroll. The staff and volunteers are very friendly and helpful - they even helped me find a wayward American Flamingo that was foraging in North Pond.

Billy Tate — Google review

An amazing place with beautiful views on the bridge, on the sea, on the sand hills. You can observe the birds" flying. You can look at the breathtaking sunset.

лариса паффенрот — Google review

The staff in the office/gift shop/visitor center were above and beyond helpful and friendly. Fun to chat with. Nice selection of items in their gift shop. I look forward to going back.

Donna Crane — Google review

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is one of several government efforts that help retain the natural splendor of the outerbanks. Pea Island is well worth a stop of an hour or two. The visitor center is excellent, with a very knowledgeable staff that knows about the entire area. The center also contains an observation window where visitors are supplied with binoculars. Once outside again, there is a nice easy walk on a dike behind the visitor center where you can get a chance to glimpse many types of waterfowl during their migration season. The walk leads to a fairly tall observation stand which provides really good views. And, if you are willing to cross the road (it's a bit dangerous due to the huge amount of traffic) there is the roaring beach!!!

Mike Longenbaker — Google review

Great little area to walk and see the sound. Be careful during the summer there is an enormous amount of wasps, they are not aggressive but they were out in abundance. If you can make it to the end it's a beautiful view of the tower!

Gretchenk Kennett — Google review

What a great place for bird watching. Plenty of other wildlife as well. We saw deer, turtles, and rabbits. The Friday morning bird walk was a free, very informative tour. We saw more than 40 different birds.

Lighthouses

The Bodie Island Lighthouse is a historic structure built in 1848, that still operates today. Visitors can enjoy tours and scenic views of the surrounding area. Although some visitors may find the gift shop prices to be a bit high, it is important to note that most of the proceeds go towards maintaining the lighthouse and its grounds. The dock leading out into the marsh offers spectacular views as well.

What a wonderful lighthouse to visit. This makes only the second time in my life to come here, but they've improved it since I last came here in the early 2000's. Gift shop prices were a little high but given that most of the proceeds go to maintaining the lighthouse and the grounds makes it worth it. The dock that leads out into the marsh makes for a great view too. While the lighthouse itself was closed for our visit, I was not disappointed. I would like to come visit again someday.

Hudson Ball — Google review

Beautiful view from the top. YOU HAVE TO WAKE UP EARLY TO BUY TICKETS. You also must be at the base of the lighthouse 5-10 minutes BEFORE your reservation time. They only sell 8 tickets per 20 minute time slot. The rangers are pleasant and educational.

RasburryTe — Google review

This is one of my favorite lighthouses. You do need to purchase tickets in advance on the NP website. It takes a few minutes to set up an account, so plan ahead during busy seasons. The view at the top is well worth the climb. Good place to picnic, restrooms available.

Jo Covington Nencetti — Google review

It was the anniversary of the lighthouse we as a family got to see it lit the old fashioned, original way of lighting the watchtower. Also, they had posters as a no-cost gift for attending the anniversary of its unique and priceless standing. Peaceful, easy to walk up the island strait, great for photography of all kinds. I had a local man kindly brief my family & I on the history of the lighthouse & why it was unique, just as a courtesy! :) Wonderful view & private!

Summer B Edwards (White Coil) — Google review

The lighthouse is nestled in such a serene location, it's incredibly relaxing. The park service does an amazing job with the grounds and have such a trove of knowledge to talk about. Definitely ask a ranger about the story of the name of Bodie Island.Do make sure you buy tickets online in the morning if you're planning on climbing the lighthouse, because it sells out regularly.

Alan Courtright — Google review

You can no longer walk up and get to climb this lighthouse. You must schedule in advance online and I did not realize that after driving down from Duck. It was still a great experience to get to see the lighthouse and we were allowed to walk into the bottom and see the stairwell and museum areas. There is also a boardwalk with an observation deck that has some beautiful views and wildlife to see.

Jenn ifer — Google review

This is another beautiful lighthouse in Cape Hatteras, NC. It has 216 steps, which I did not climb. They warn you that it's hot inside and children have to be a certain height and children cannot be carried in order to climb the stairs. I'm sure it's a beautiful sight at the very top but I won't know unless you post your pictures so I can see!! Also, try lifting the can of oil that the lighthouse keepers would have to carry 2 times a day up all those steps to fuel the light! Good luck:)

Cheryl Coldwell — Google review

Pretty cool, I never really saw a lighthouse in person before. If you want to walk up into the lighthouse you have to purchase your tickets at 7am online for it. When we got there, there was only 1 ticket left. But it was still beautiful from the bottom. They have a little marsh walk that you stay on the platform to go look out at a lookout. Little nice adventure. And inside the house there is a little gift shop with information and more history facts.

Samantha Martin-Braginton — Google review

Must see if I’m the area. The visitor center is very nice, lots of history and information is available including the history of the lighthouse and information about the wildlife in the area. There is also a small gift shop with lots of nice items to choose from. The rangers working are very informative and friendly. Our son did the jr ranger program and we stayed for a ranger program which was well organized, perfect length and very educational. We really enjoyed our stop and would recommend the stop to anyone who loves the outer banks or lighthouses.

Savannah Perry — Google review

Such a beautiful lighthouse. The living quarters were large. There is no access to the upstairs area. Lots of artifacts in the main living quarters. You can also get a unique stamp for the passport for the national state parks.

Wendy George — Google review

The lighthouse is managed by NPS and it in a beautiful location offering several interesting views for photography. Best night photography here would be during the new moon when it’s really dark. Even better if it’s during the months when the Milky Way is visible. I noticed a source of light pollution where I’d look for the Milky Way so I can’t say this will be a great Milky Way photo location. I think the light pollution source is fairly new.

Victor Engle — Google review

The most underrated lighthouse on the Outer Banks. Its barely tucked away behind the trees making it feel more rural than it actually is. The grounds are neatly kept and open. The walkway allows you to view the marshes up close and is a great place to spot wildlife.

M.K. Productions — Google review

Great spot to stop and stretch your legs before you drive through the long stretch of park land. Beautiful light house and green space, with a small visitor center (no charge) and restrooms nearby. Enjoyed the short walk on the boardwalk out to the viewing tower- saw fish and crabs in the water. Didn't climb the lighthouse today (so hot!) but if you decide to go, get your ticket online before coming (otherwise you'll likely not get one). Fairly busy, but there is a good bit of parking and it's a place for only a short visit, so there is regular parking turnover.

Andy Beyer — Google review

Beautiful little spot. Careful for snakes. 😂 Don't worry, they have a lifted board walk just for that. Public restroom. Small fee for a tour and walk up the lighthouse. QR codes for convince. QR code to register your vehicle off roading. Lovely walk and views.

kittykat36s — Google review

Pretty lighthouse to visit. We got there too late to climb the inside, so we walked the marsh walk out to the lookout. Had a great view of the water and the lighthouse. Lots of pictures taken by my wife. Easy parking and also has restrooms to use.

Kenneth Fox — Google review

One of the beautiful gems of the East Coast! This lighthouse has a beautiful drive in, ample parking and so many incredible angles to view the lighthouse from. Make sure to walk the short nature trail!

Synergy Web Systems — Google review

We got there about 430 and they close at 5 so we didnt get to go in the lighthouse its self. They locked it up about 450 while we were in the gift shop museum area. We still enjoyed seeing it.

Tina Neice — Google review

One of the three lighthouses featuring the classic black and white paint scheme on the Hatteras National Seashore, the Bodie Island Lighthouse was built in 1872 and stands nearly 160 feet. The grounds around the lighthouse are spectacularly maintained. Climbing to the top is by purchasing tickets in advance.

Charles Pinney — Google review

A must see on your Outer Banks trip! We ended up making it just after the store closed, but we’re still able to walk around and take pictures. We were able to see the light function as well, just before sunset.

M Dean — Google review

Beautiful grounds. Lighthouse is easy to photograph. Short walk to an observation tower. Saw a family of muskrats near the boardwalk.

Gretchen Barger — Google review

Lovely all around. Great view from the top, although I would not recommend the climb for those who are height-averse. As explained by the guide before you go up, only one person can climb a single flight of stairs at a time and they do feel a bit rickety at times.

Dolphin & Whale Watching

Paradise Cruises is a boat company that operates dolphin cruises in the area around OBX Marina. The trips allow passengers to explore local birds and take in stunning views of Roanoke Sound while looking for dolphins. Paradise has been awarded #1 rankings by Trip Advisor for four years running, and the boats are comfortable with a canopy top, cushioned seats, and a restroom. Tours last two hours, and starting fees are $15 per person.

We went on the sunset dolphin cruise. We got to see numerous dolphin pods peaking their heads out of the water in the sound. My mum got a lucky pic of one of the dolphins actually jumping out of the water which is extremely rare since the sound is only about 4 feet deep. The sunset was beautiful despite the rainy day. You also get a great view of the Lost Colony replica ship.

Jaclyn Weatherly — Google review

Had a great trip and the captain and first mate were so informative and helpful! They gave us tips for the area and showed the kids some really cool animal artifacts. We also saw way more dolphins then we ever have! The followed the pods and even taught us their names!

Melissa Hillman Dunlap — Google review

Captain Jay and crew were friendly and definitely knowledgeable on the history of the area, the dolphins we saw, where to go find them, the $27M catamaran, oysters and the pelicans. We had a great afternoon out to celebrate 2 birthdays and the weather held out well *even though Tropical storm Ophelia was brewing off the coast! It was a fun boat ride.Thank you!

Great tour! Family friendly!!! Both of our crew members were knowledgeable and entertaining! First we went looking for dolphins and not even 7 minutes off the doc we found some! The Captain knew a lot of their names from distinct markings they have which was awesome! After the dolphins they took us around a few of the islands which are animal sanctuaries! The pelican island was e asspecially impressive with the amount of birds! We even saw some dolphins on the way home. The crew invited some of the youth to "drive" the boat which was adorable!!!

Joanna Durando — Google review

We saw tons of dolphins last night 8/18. They came right up to the side of the boat, they even took us around to see Pelican Island and an one heck of a stellar sunset (well we can thank Mother Nature for that) great Captain- loved his local stories and island history. Boat was clean and comfortable- great view from any spot. Highlight of the week.

H Lutman — Google review

Paradise Dolphin cruises is a 10/10 must do! Our captain was the absolute sweetest man ever with lots of knowledge about the area and the local fishing culture and was really informative! He was great with all kids on board and gave everyone a chance to ‘drive the boat’. He’s amazing! We also had Sandy who is wonderful at spotting dolphins and super informative as well, always checked in on everyone and made the tour super engaging! Would 100% recommend as you will see dolphins and have a fun and welcoming time! They make you feel like you are at home.

Kyah Patterson — Google review

Went out with our 8 kids (ages 7-17), 2 parents and 2 grandparents and had a blast. Dolphins were so fun to watch and the crew is fun, safe, and knowledgeable of the area. Cannot recommend it enough!

Cory Jones — Google review

This was our family’s second year on the sunset cruise and it was just as amazing this time as last. We saw lots of dolphins and our boat guide was very knowledgeable about the areas we explored. This year our girls were gifted dolphin necklaces at the end of the trip which was the cherry on top! We can’t wait until next year!

Allison Innocent — Google review

We enjoyed our time on the Kokomo with Captain Jay and Scott. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and funny. It took a little time before we spotted dolphins, but it didn't matter because the boat ride and other sites were nice. We all had a good time from 2 1/2 years old to over 60. Roomy, even with a full tour booked and easy to move about to get views from either side.

Stacy Adams — Google review

Best experience for us and our boys. The captain and crew gave a great tour and guaranteed we'd see dolphins. They didn't disappoint and they had names for the dolphins!Highly recommend you reserve their sunset cruise for your next OBX trip 👍

Jeff Pazmino — Google review

My Fiancé and I took the Sunset Dolphin Cruise. It did not disappoint, we saw a lot of Dolphins they were amazing. Our Captain and First Mate of the Kokomo were so much fun and very knowledgeable of the area and shared that knowledge with us, the passengers. I can’t give Paradise Cruises enough praise, they’re absolutely the greatest. If you’re looking for a Dolphin Cruise choose (Paradise Cruises)they’re on time, reliable and very kind.

Becky Savage — Google review

What a great experience! We had a group of 13 which included 7 kids from 3-13. It was so cool! While there isn't a guarantee that you will see dolphins the captain and first mate were determined and great hosts! We learned so much about the sound and its wildlife! We were Fortunate to see dolphins up close for all most the whole time we were on the water! This was our first time in OBX and this group was very happy with this experience!

Candace Bliss — Google review

Looking for a dolphin tour that is fun and family oriented, look no further!! We would recommend Paradise Dolphin Tours. We appreciated Paradise being away from the touristy downtown area. It was much quieter and we had a more personalized experience. From the beginning of our phone call (yes, we booked over the phone :), she was kind and patient with us. The company encouraged bringing food and beverages, including adult (which they sell all of those items at the onsite store), onboard to make the trip enjoyable. The onboard crew were knowledgable and personable and it wasn't long before we spotted soooooo many dolphins! The crew gave a brief history of the Outer Banks, and answered all questions. What more could you ask for in 2 hours?

Eduardo Rivera — Google review

We usually do a different dolphin tour every year but decided to try this one out. So glad we did The crew was fantastic and very knowledgeable and of course the dolphins did not disappoint! Although it was a little tough to find (a few more clearly marked signs would be great) but once we got there it was a great experience.

Fishing pier

Sights & Landmarks

Jennette's Pier is a fishing pier on the Outer Banks of North Carolina that reopened in 2011 after being destroyed by Hurricane Isabel. The pier is known for its wide, clean beaches and offers fishing lessons. It celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2021.

For only a couple dollars per person, you can experience beautiful aquarium exhibits with live fish, educational signs, interactive digital exhibits,A gift shop, an upper level with beautiful lookout of the water (as long as there isn’t an event happening!), walk the pier and watch people catch fish, learn the history of the pier, and take pretty photos. A must do for all ages. Wear comfy shoes and bring a sweatshirt if you get cold easily.

Kate — Google review

We decided to check out the pier while we're still here in OBX. I loved the signage explaining the history of the pier and the small aquarium inside. The bathrooms were also clean and orderly. Our only complaints were the $2 fee for each of us to walk on the pier just to check it out and the fact that they aren't pet friendly, even though it's completely outdoors. Since we have our small dog with us to explore, that was a deal breaker.

Shanah Bell — Google review

Loved walking this pier! A stunning day and they were hosting a event where 4 teams were competing for the production of producing clean drinking water from the ocean. We were informed of the event and it was such a special add-on to the experience.

Sylvia Balli — Google review

We had an amazing time. We came in for a day trip to enjoy my son’s 2nd birthday and it was perfect. We stopped at the small family market around the corner and then headed to the pier where we were able to find easy free parking and very close beach access. We had no troubles getting to the beach with our two year old and our belongings.I would definitely recommend water shoes for this beach. The current was very strong and the ocean floor was full of shells and ocean debris which was unpleasant. I put my child in a life preserver and I felt it wasn’t too safe to go in at all, although there were many people a good ways into the water. The waves on this particular day were just absolutely brutal, I was knocked over and dragged a few times, immediately skinning up my knees and the ocean could have swallowed up my 2 year old very quickly, even in the very shallow surf. I normally love to frolic about in the waves, but even just the surf challenged every muscle in my body, my knees and ankles were even too weak too withstand it for any considerable amount of time.Despite the aggressive waves, it’s still a great beach and the views are incredible and the memories will last forever. There are no rows and rows of high rise hotels obstructing the pristine views. The other beach goers were chill and friendly. Everyone is happy on the beach!I highly recommend this experience! Just bring some water shoes, sand toys for the youngsters, and your favorite bevvy. There were many treasures to behold in the surf and sand. I would definitely provide my toddler a sand bucket and shovel next time, so he can busy himself making moats and sand castles.

Jessica Wood — Google review

We always stroll the pier when we're here. Great walk to experience & different prices for passes depending upon your need. Gift shop is quaint with lots of toys & fishing items. Benches all over & is a fun expedition! Only $2 a person to walk on it but that pass good for full day! Small tube aquarium with fish details in common area. Easy park & walk!

Rebecca Hall — Google review

Awesome place and time sweet gift shop great views from the pier. Plenty of people fishing and getting rays and skates small blue fish and spotted trout. Great day awesome time had my Jeep with me also known as #smokey5120 thank u for the great time

Jason Boria — Google review

This enormous pier was a fantastic experience. There is a coffee shop, gift store, and small aquarium accompanied by placards and posters that talk about the history of the area and the pier. Out on the main pier, you can take in a beautiful view of the ocean. It is absolutely gorgeous! We even got to see dolphins not very far away from the pier. I highly recommend visiting! 👍👍

Dan Harrison — Google review

7/29/22 This is a fantastic pier which has wind turbines that generate the electricity for the pier's lighting. It is the longest pier of the seven piers on the Outer Banks reaching out 1,000 feet into deep water. It's very popular for tourists and fishermen. The pier has a blanket license for anglers and licenses can be purchased at the register with a valid driver's license and payment. The ocean and beach views are beautiful especially at sundown. The beaches here are wide and there is a public bathhouse, outdoor showers and a lifeguard.A gift shop is located at the entrance and admission to the pier is just $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children under 10 for the day. Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. from May to October. Pets are not allowed on the pier.

Tommie Frasher — Google review

This is not just another pier! Jeanette's pier pier is an experience definitely recommended when visiting OBX. The aquarium, the gift shop, and the pier with amazing views all day. It is very relaxing to just sit and take in the scenery and the people. Must see spot and should be on your list of to-do!

Matthew Truett — Google review

There seemed to be a lot of questions regarding the beach at Nags Head Island. We visited this place in mid of June a week ago and we had a wonderful time there. The beach is one of the great beaches i ever visited. There wasn't any litter or dirt beach is very clean and neat. In fact, its more beautiful in night time if you visit it at new moon night 🌙.. i love this place sharing some pictures you can see .. its amazing and incredible scenes...

Muhammad Adeel Anjum — Google review

I have been here a couple of times. I think this is a great pier to walk on and to fish. The first time I was here we saw three whales swimming past the end of the pier (which is rare to see). Today we saw a few fisherman catching fish at the end of the pier. The pier is pretty clean and the views are great if you want to take pictures with your family. There is a 2 dollar fee per person to enter onto the pier. I liked seeing the sun set, watching people swimming on the beach, and just sitting on the benches. I would recommend coming here for anyone vacationing in the area.

M B — Google review

Not a bad spot on the beach. The bathhouse is nice, and is much better than most places on the OBX. The area under the pier also has lots of shade, which is great if you need it. The beach does get pretty busy by the middle of the day, so I’d definitely arrive early if you want a good spot.

Micah Walters — Google review

Very nice place with great surroundings. 2 dollar entrance fee to visit pier. Lots of parking lots.

Oliver — Google review

My photos show what you can see without paying the fee to walk onto the pier. Outside walls have the interesting history of the pier. A large brass sea turtle makes for a good photo with the kids. Inside there are restrooms, a mini aquarium, and a gift shop with apparel, kids binoculars, toys, fishing gear, and snacks.

Charise Van Liew — Google review

Annual tradition for our family. We love the interactive touch screen information panels that accompany the incredible tanks. The pier itself has lovely commemorative fish shaped plaques inlaid in the wood walkway. The view is awesome and the beach is always enjoyable. Ample parking is a big plus.

Michelle Cuccherini — Google review

Jennette's Pier is a fabulous location for a wedding on the Outer Banks! We truly enjoyed photographing Isabel & Jeremiah's wedding there, so many amazing locations for photos and some of the friendliest staff! We can't wait to photograph here again!

Ryan Moser (Ryan & Rach Photography) — Google review

I’ve never been a big fan of piers that make you pay to walk out on and that’s why I could only give four stars. Other than the payment, the pier and gift shop are nice and clean. Plenty of seating and bathrooms.

James Brown — Google review

$2 per person to get onto the pier. The gift shop and little aquarium inside are free. We walked to the end and got to see some Dolphins in the ocean!

Jay Mitchell — Google review

We visited Jannette's Pier on a windy cold December day while on a road trip up the Outer Banks. There was a $2 charge per person to walk out on the pier. There were two fishermen and some dolphin spotters besides us. In the water in a wetsuit was a person body boarding the surf. They looked like they were having fun despite what must have been very cold water. I bet this place is packed in the summer.

Charles Ragan — Google review

One of the nicest piers I've been to. Great beach area too. There is a decent amount of parking but it does fill up fast during tourist season.

Synergy Web Systems — Google review

Beautiful day for a visit! This was our first time here, and I was pleasantly surprised at the overall experience. It cost $2 per person to walk out on the pier for the day. They have a nice beach access area and outdoor showers and bathrooms. They have sheltered areas to sit under along the pier. There were plenty of benches to sit on. There was also an indoor gift shop area and even a huge fish tank area with more bathrooms. Very nice! It's definitely worth visiting!

Outlet mall

Shopping

The Outer Banks outlet mall Tanger Outlets is home to a variety of designer stores. You can find brands like Ralph Lauren and J. Crew here, as well as other popular brands. You can take a break from the beach and shop at the outlet mall before returning to your Pirates Cove Realty vacation rental.

This place takes the "boyfriend bench" to the next level with this gorgeous view and several comfy couches while your wife or girlfriend shops at J Cree, sunglasses hut, salty outfitters, and many more fabulous stores.

Mark David — Google review

My daughter and I went to the Aires outlet and was able to find a beautiful swim suit for a great price and many other items marked at great prices. High quality!

Kristine Palmisani — Google review

Nice place with a small assortment of the standard stores you would expect at an outlet place. Same prices. Perhaps more beach-related items than outlets further inland. Plenty of parking. Easy in and out.

Ken Privett — Google review

Went here for the first time today. What a unique and fun place. So many seasonings, hot sauces and rubs. Level of heat is clearly marked in a creative way. Also a great place for gift ideas for those who love the heat 🔥🌶

Jen Sea Glass Soul — Google review

I always love going there I used to know where everything was but soo much has changed. But always nice and polite employees.

Dawn Ambrose — Google review

We always stop in for some gourmet vinegar. But otherwise everything else is found in all the other outlet malls. Parking is terrific. Women's bathroom is a nightmare if it's busy. The door is a choke point. It isn't designed for two-way traffic to get in and out the door. Especially when they have a giant trashcan propping the door open effectively blocking half the walk way. That makes it near impossible for wheelchairs and walkers to get in. A redesign is in order. But as far as people- super friendly and pleasant 💕 that!

K Ball — Google review

Nice little outlet mall but if you’re expecting a mega mall you would be disappointed. It did have a good selection of stores. The Loft was well stocked according to my wife. We got some nice shoes at Sperry’s. Didn’t go to any other stores but next time we are at the Outer Banks we will go back for more shopping.

Kenneth Fox — Google review

Great selection of stores here. Sad that Banana closed but they still have Sunglass Hut and J Crew which I like a lot. They also have a GAP and American Eagle and some other stuff.

Robert Rogers — Google review

While Mom was shopping, I was enjoing the sound-side facing decks. One has more comfortable seating and better shade and the other has more tables and more sun. Both decks are winners. And for this reason, even if you aren't a shopper, I highly encourage accompanying your shopper to this outlet mall ... it was a better view than our lodgings.

Jenni Levenbook — Google review

Lots of name brand clothes shopping and food options here. Outdoor dining area. Stop by the customer service office for the coupon book before you shop.

Jac Cameron — Google review

I waited half an hour to pay and when I got to the cashier they told me that my shoes were not on sale, because I cheat that way I feel offended waiting 30 minutes is unacceptable

Javier Bullet — Google review

There are some spectacular deals to be had here! My wife bought two pairs of high quality sneakers for what she'd have paid for one pair where we live.

James Davis — Google review

Great selection of retail stores. Loved the outdoor decks overlooking the sound.

Glenn Fox — Google review

There are good stores still here, but I must not be into the latest fads and stuck more into what I know works for me. Eddie Bower never disappoints and I do like Vera Bradley, but I really miss Coach and Nautica. Ralph Lauren is ridiculous even in the outlet. A restaurant has been added which is awesome to give a day of shopping one with no concerns of where to eat.

2/1/2022. Update, the Outlets Nags Head aren't quite as good as when it was under Tanger Outlets, it's harder to get discounts and hours change from store to store, it also seems harder to order from these shops online.. its a nice place to enjoy the view, grab a wrap, but understand you'll pay for it.. * love certain shops here at this Tanger Outlet, is everything a bargain? no.. but the places,I love the most, such as , Carter's, Gap, and more ,can't be beat, and the employees are awesome, go above and beyond and there's always a sell going on at most shops ,Do you want more for your money? Then go here, whether for your child ,friends, or, in my case my grandchildren, it's a steal and a shout out to Carrie?or Robin? ' I may not remenber her name shes the manager ) but a kinder more helpful woman you wont meet, I believe she's doing and setting the example for her employees there. . Thank you from the grandma who is ill, & you always help and remember myself and your customers. Keep up the great work. I hope to be back real soon, **oh and moms sign up online account, you get money point rewards for cash spent on the dollar, great incentives ! Thanks again.Happy Shopping! : )***** I would like to add on to my review, for yesterday 8/3/18 I had an experience with the manager of customer service, Mrs.Moore, and I apologize if I made mistake of her name.. but my point is, she was awesome ' so helpful and quick to assist me.. I appreciate as a ' local ' that not only is "Great Customer Service'' here for our vacationers but for the year long local as well.. and Great, is how I would describe my experience, helpful , considerate, kind and just totally went out of her way to accommodate me. Thank you, and heres just another reason to continue shopping at the 'Outer Banks outlet Center'.

TF Farrow — Google review

Overall, good options for stores. Very walkable with plenty of parking. Could be a great escape from the sun or if you need some retail therapy.Wish more sales or deals were available or some variety of stores for all groups.

Taylor O'Dell — Google review

The website says it opens at 1000 on Sunday. The stores don't open till 1100. There should be some consistancy

Antics & Attitude — Google review

Overpriced items in every store. If money is no object then you’ll like it here.

Sarah Henson — Google review

I have been to many outlets in my day, this was not an outlet like I had ever seen before. I only went into a couple of stores but their prices were way more than any outlet store I have ever been to. Not a big outlet mall, you would think their prices would be phenomenal, this was not the case. All of the staff in the stores that we went to, Michael kors and an oil and other items shop, were very nice with a pleasant demeanor but this did not make up for the high prices. My next time to Duck, I will not make a stop at the outlets

Distillery

Food & Drink

Outer Banks Distilling is a local rum producer situated close to the White Doe Inn in Manteo, North Carolina. Their seafaring pirate theme adds to the charm of their establishment. The distillery's owners, Matt and Scott, are known for being amiable and engaging with their customers. They take great pride in creating high-quality rum that is enjoyed by many, even those who aren't big fans of the spirit.

Top notch distillery with world class talent behind the bar and in the merch store. If you know how to search what your looking for and don't have stupid expectations for "mixed drinks" as a poor reveiwer said before. You've arrived... Enjoy World Class Rum in a great setting. - Jay

James Rankin — Google review

Not your usual distillery where you only get to sample the wares and learn about how booze is made. Instead, more of a distillery/bar combo where the drinks are made with the distillery's Kill Devil rum. The co*cktails that we tried showed real artistry with house-made ingredient like peanut milk, coconut cream and tepache. I mentioned to the owner that I had tried making tepache several times without success, and he took time to give me lots of tips and tricks (which I have yet to try). I highly recommend the Jamaican Caucasian (coffee-based) and the Devil Killer (a tiki drink). And you can even get the co*cktails to go in a stadium cup! Very friendly folks and a super-nice beachy atmosphere. Be sure to buy some souvenier rum to go since the stuff is really hard to find elsewhere (several local ABC stores told me that hadn't had any to sell for many months.A must-stop on your OBX vacay.

Robert V. House — Google review

Very good small batch Rum. The co*cktails are on a whole nother level. Who would’a thought of thyme infused lemon bitters in a co*cktail. You gotta try their stuff.

Chris McGarity — Google review

Hi everyone,I can't say enough about these wonderful people. Not only do they make the mist delicious rums, they are friendly and kind and truly care about their customers. I give these for Christmas gifts throughout my family and everyone enjoys it. A trip to the outer banks is not complete till you visit the folks at outer banks distillery.

Linda Smith — Google review

Where has all the rum gone? ;) There was none available to buy due to something being worked on by the distillery, but I did pick up some pecans, candy, and a cupcake ( all delicious!) Hopefully next year can stay for a drink or two and bring a bottle ( or two) home. Friendly staff as well.

S S — Google review

One of my favorite distilleries that I have ever visited. I only had a chance to meet and talk with Matt and Scott and they are some of the most personable guys. We talked at length about ideas and projects they had in the works. I am not a huge RUM drinker but every single one of their products that I have tried, I have loved. They take great care in their crafting of Rum and I look forward to catching up with them again many more times as I continue to visit.

Scott Iverson — Google review

This is a great micro-distillery that specializes in Rums only. on our trip we sampled three rums, the regular white rum, a gold rum which was aged in Bourbon barrels, and a flavored rum with pecans and honey. On-site they also have a small lounge where you can try co*cktails which we tried three different ones and they were all very good.

Rick Adkins — Google review

One of the best distillery tours we’ve been on, and we’ve been on many. Full of character and passion. Make sure to leave time at the end to visit the co*cktail bar on premises, where they mix up tasty drinks using the rum.

Shannon McIntyre Hooper — Google review

Super fun experience. Tasty co*cktails as well! Tepeche! Housemade peanut milk! Amazing! Had a great history and rum making tutorial and bought merch and bottles!

andrea mull — Google review

Kind of sad there was no tours while there but the guys and gals working were inviting and the rum was good. Bought a few things and stayed for a co*cktail. Good spot to check out while in the area!

RedBeard 757 — Google review

Perfect way to spend an hour. We did the mini flight tasting and enjoyed a couple of co*cktails that were truly wonderful. The bartender is an amazing mixologist.

Aquarium

Nature & Parks

North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island offers a diverse range of activities and exhibits, including live animal encounters, interactive displays, feedings, films, and a large shark tank holding 285,000 gallons of water. This aquarium is an excellent choice for families looking for indoor entertainment or to escape the rain. Visitors can see sea turtles, otters, jellyfish, sharks along with other marine creatures.

This place is so awesome! They have incredible interactive exhibits and great prices. They have an amazing sea otter exhibit, HUGE shark tank exhibit, reptiles and amphibians, super cool touch tanks, and the jellyfish room is transcendent! The outdoor grounds area is scenic and peaceful as well. You can spend quite a bit of time both inside and out! The staff truly care about the animals, exhibits and are very willing to share their knowledge. Do recommend getting your tickets on their website, its easy and it can be extremely busy during the tourist seasons.

heather medwid — Google review

$12 for 13 n up you have to buy online.Loved this little aquarium. Small enough to enjoy, large enough to be memorable. Staff is helpful. Watching the sharks be fed was cool. Kids will enjoy the touch ponds with sting rays and such. There is a fun garden to walk with activities for kids too.

LeeAnna Springer — Google review

We've been to a few different aquariums and this aquarium seemed to be worth the price of admissions. While it does take some time to go through and there are plenty of exhibits, the spaces are tight and narrow. We were fighting crowds and constantly around lots of people. There were a few open opportunities for me to snap a few good pics, but you can also see how crowded it can be too. Being as tight and crowded as it was, strollers were a nuisance, especially the big ones. If you have a pop-up, use it. The other thing that really annoys me at any aquarium and even most zoos, are when adults feel the need to stand in front of an exhibit for an extended period of time while children are waiting to see. I'm sure as an adult, you've already seen most of what's there, stand back and let the kids enjoy the experience. Same goes for those helicopter parents, your kids arent going to disappear if you give them a few more feet. Overall it was a decent experience for the afternoon at a decent value for the family.

Matthew Truett — Google review

My family love aquariums. This one was really nice. Be sure to reserve tickets early in the morning or the night before as tickets sell out quick. The parking lot was nearly full when we arrived. There are timed tickets but the place was still rather crowded. There is also a little outdoor section for kids to play.Worth a visit.

Christine DeVose — Google review

Great place for family visit. Location is terrific. Not a big aquarium but they have a diverse collection. Loved the jelly fish and the shark exhibits. The 20 minutes show in the Neptune theater was super educational. This show is not advertised enough so the administrators are reading, please make sure your website highlights this experience of this unique Globe screen and the information you provide. Very nice gift shop. Once you step out, there is the beautiful pier and a trail where you can see lots of birds. Recommend this place to all!

Amresh Vaidya — Google review

Very well done exhibits. The treatment center was very interesting to visit and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. It's a smaller aquarium compared to those in big cities but worth the money and a must-see if visiting the Outer Banks. Timed entry helps control crowds but parking was still difficult.

Daryl Densford — Google review

The state of North Carolina operates several world-class aquariums that are located throughout the stet. This Roanoke island location is one of them and it's EXCELLENT. Not only is is a great aquarium, but it's location is close to the water and there are some great water views and activities for guests. It's also a nice place for bird watching. My suggestion is to choose a less-busy day, and really enjoy yourself!

Thus aquarium was very nice. It was definitely kid friendly for several reasons. It was big enough to keep the children engaged but not too big they lost interest. They allow strollers(there are several in other states that don't). They had a couple of interactive exhibits. A touch one and an educational one about sea turtles. They rehab sea turtles with the expectation that they will be released back to the wild. They also have a trail and a butterfly garden on the premises that is included with your admission. All in all, we took a 2 and 6 year old and both were entertained. I'd say that's a win!

Great opportunity to view beautiful creatures I would otherwise not see. However, I felt torn due to the fact I was a spectator. The animals should be in their natural habitat. The animal enclosures weren't very big. Their turtle rescue was good to see. They nurse injured/sick sea turtles back to health. Once they are fit, they're released back into the wild.

Great spot to check out on a rainy day or just to get the kids out of the house. Sea turtles, otters, sharks, jellyfish + more. This particular aquarium does a "trick or treat under the sea" annually around Halloween' if you buy tickets for that (in advance) you will not regret it.We've been countless times over the years and never had a disappointing visit.

Krista Hanusik — Google review

Our family loved this aquarium. You have to buy your tickets online in advance and select a time slot. It's right on the water and has a wonderful outside area for the kids to run around, a cafe to get lunch and a beautiful dock. The aquarium was the perfect size for my two young children age one and four.We absolutely loved the sea turtle rehab center. My four year old liked going to the different stations with his fake sea turtle and going through the different scenarios on what what wrong and how to help it. And what was even better, the real life turtle rehab center was right next door so we could watch the real life animals being helped. Will definitely be back!

This is the second year we have visited this aquarium while vacationing in the outer banks. Our kids love this aquarium! There's a large variety of animals, including a nice shark and sea turtle exhibit. Tickets are very reasonably priced and there's lots of great activities for kids like the large touch tank. Will continue to come back in the future!

Crystal Martirano — Google review

It was such a great place to visit for all ages! A wide variety of marine life with beautiful tanks. I loved the turtle rescue section as well. The gardens outside were both beautiful and educational. Definitely worth a visit!

Eric Hepler — Google review

Great place to take your kids! They had plenty of interactive things for the kids to participate in and a very good variety of the diversity in habitats all the animals live in. Make reservations online as they are required! That being said, it's also not slammed busy. At least not on a Friday at 3 pm. So it was really nice to let kids have fun and run.

Greg Johnson — Google review

An intimate walk through the creatures that inhabit the NC Coast. We were enthralled and enchanted! Make reservations for an entrance ticket. Enjoy the amazing animals and the many volunteers who keep this place running so well.

Diane Albanese — Google review

Great experience for kids of all ages! Interactive exhibits were engaging. The touch pool was a big hit where you can get your finger hugged by urchins! Our sons really enjoyed the turtle lab, which was a hands-on simulation of how injured turtles can be rehabilitated. One of my favorite parts is the jellyfish room with its tall tubes of bubbles and light changing displays of floating jellies. The surrounding land outside the aquarium was also great. There was a "fossil" excavation mound, a nature trail, and a pier. I really liked the pier as it was a lovely view, ample seating, and informative panels along the pier walkway. Highly recommended.

Michelle Cuccherini — Google review

We had a good time at the aquarium. My favorite part was the Jellyfish tanks. It is worth visiting if you visit the outer banks. Highly recommended to take your kids or a date.

I had a flight with OBX airplanes. Highly recommend ( do an hour 10-45 isn’t long enough) although pilot was amazing and informative should have gotten more. On me.. Aquarium was very informative, thoughtful of the aquatic life staff was acknowledging and informative, kind and helpful ❣️Thank you for all that you do. I also noticed there was an animal rescue across the street and the sweet darling girl that was so informative to the crabs, stingrays, and those that live in shell life was walking a beautiful labor retriever, after teaching me of the life of such. I adore this adventure I had there. Again thank you

Island Farm is a 19th-century farm that serves as a living museum with interpreters dressed in period attire and hands-on activities. The staff is known for being friendly, and the property itself is charming with a rich history. Visitors can learn about the living habits of people during the 1850s through interactive experiences such as looking at chickens, running through three acres of land, swinging on tree swings, and playing with handcrafted lawn toys.

The most friendly staff and beautiful charming place with so much history! My two year old had an amazing time looking at chickens and running through the 3 acres property, and of course swinging on the tree swing and playing with hand crafted lawn toys. My husband and I loved learning about the history and living habits of people in the 1850s. Truly fascinating and beautiful.

My husband and I came here for their pumpkin patch day. We had a great time exploring the farm, seeing the animals, and participating in cool activities like making mini swords out of nails at the black smith and wax candles at the fire pit. The activities did not cost extra which was awesome. They treat the property like an interactive museum where you can touch, open, and explore everything. We learned a lot about the Ethridges and received a great tour of the farm house showing us details and the meaning behind them that we otherwise may have overlooked.

Neat little stop. Beautiful quilts for sale. Nice and informative staff dressed in the era clothing. Animals on site to see what it was really like.

Took the family here on vacation. It was amazing, we learned so much and had a ton of fun. The employees were great, they took time with our entire family to explain things in extra detail. This was definitely our favorite activity on vacation. Definitely recommend!

Worth the visit for the gardens alone! The guides were a wealth of knowledge; almost all were friendly and accommodating of my young kids. The blacksmith was so kind to my boys, and we could tell he loved sharing his work with us!All of the buildings are explorable, but take extra care to not disturb the decorations in the family graveyard, as it is still in use.

I absolutely LOVED my time at the Island Farm. Not only is it a fantastic representation of life on the island back then, but the people that worked there were absolutely wonderful and it felt like they were family. I got to make a cloth doll and it made my whole day. They have a bunch of cool animals on the farm and it’s a historical treat. Honestly a perfect time for everyone in the family. Can’t wait to visit again.

Nature & Parks

Nags Head's Jockey's Ridge State Park is a natural wonder that offers adventurers a variety of activities to enjoy, from hiking and sandboarding to kite flying. The park is always open from sunrise to sunset, and admission is free.

I always love coming here, and my recent visit on vacation was no exception! The building was closed, but that certainly does not prevent you from going walking around it to access the sand!Is there some sort of trail here? I know this is the end of the mountain-to-sea trail but I thought there was a trail specifically around the park.Plenty of big dunes to take a fun tumble down, and this park contains the highest point in Dare County! They also offer hang gliding here! If you look hard enough you can find the other end of the water too!But what is this mysterious castle structure I took a picture of?There are also showers for your feet at the entrance building, and you will definitely need it!

beastlycharizard13 — Google review

Great state park. Huge sand dunes with great views of the bay and Nags Head. The Park Ranger we met was really awesome and let the kids sit in his vehicle and gave them sunglasses and stickers. Lots of people flying kites and you can hang glide by appointment.

Chris Sweet — Google review

What a lovely unexpected stop as we arrived in the Outer Banks and waited for our rental to be ready. We ended up spending a few hours here and walking amongst the enormous dunes on a gorgeous spring day.Everyone in the family enjoyed it and it's great for little ones to run out some energy. It was nice taking our shoes off and exploring, but also watching the kites and hang gliders set up. You'll definitely want your sunscreen and glasses, since there is no shade out there.

Christy T. — Google review

My kids love this place. I do probably more than them...it's a really big hill of sand, which doesn't sound enjoyable at all, but the entire ecosystem captured there is incredible. Pack sunscreen, it'll be hot, but at the bottom of the dune, just as you come off the boardwalk, is a little basin where the water filters down and settles. The water is very warm and filled with tadpoles, which thrilled my kids to death. Take a kite and hold on, the winds will lift it high and fast. Watch the hang-gliding lessons and explore all the little paths. Great views of both the ocean and the sound

Bill Ruffalo — Google review

This was a really great place to visit and probably a once in a lifetime experience unless you plan to visit the Great White Sand Dunes in Colorado. The sand is super soft and the hike is very short to get to the main dunes. Images cant adequately capture how vast it feels when you’re there! If you have a pet I’d suggest going in the morning or evening so the sand is cooler. There is no shade whatsoever on the main dunes so bring a backpack and some water and a hat. Its also more windy at the dunes than in the parking lot so plan to go on a calmer day. It only took us 15 mins to walk from one side of the dunes to the other so its not as far as it seems when you first get there.Only downside was that right after we got there someone dropped off 6 tour buses full of youths and their extended families so it quickly became a giant sandbox full of 200 cackling teenagers. Try going during off days/hours or multiple times since it’s totally free!

Matt Olpinski — Google review

Pictures honestly don’t do this place justice. It’s amazing! It’s way bigger than I expected it to be, so you feel like you’re alone even though you may not be. There are so many trails to walk and it’s such a great place to bring your dogs. They do have to be leashed but we let ours run a bit without holding onto them because no one was around and they have good recall. 10/10 recommend giving this place a visit and I’d definitely plan to spend a good chunk of time here!

Katie Bevacqua — Google review

I loved the open dunes on an excellent February of 46F. When we got to the trees, the trail was not well maintained, but we scrambled to the water. The signs can be confusing but we use the app “trails” to guide us. I totally recommend this place when the temps are low.

Veronica Hoyos-Leonard — Google review

Always have to make a stop here while visiting the Outer Banks. This is a must stop if you are a first time visitor. The facilities have always been clean. The gift shop and vending machines are there if you need a snack or a beverage to cool off.I would suggest bringing some water. It gets hot on top of the ridge. However its worth the hike because the view is amazing.

Our all time favorite place to visit in the area regardless of the season.Tip#1: Rent the boards from the shop.Tip#2: WAX, WAX, WAX and WAX the bottom of the board every 3 trips down. Edges first!!!#3:We bring snacks and blankets. Going up and down the hills is exhausting. We lay down, take naps, snack and take walks in between. Our favorite hill is the first real big one in the first main clearing. We haven't covered all of the park but that was our tried and true best out of all the hills we did.Make sure you walk towards the center hills so you can see both the ocean and the sound. It is beautiful. I highly recommend bringing a kite. We just unfold it and like magic it flies, almost too well. I do wish the little store had more Jockey Ridge merchandise. We would have stocked up. The staff were great! Thank you for a great experience.

Fort Far — Google review

Lovely dune park in the Outer Banks.Lots of parking, restrooms, and multiple paths out to the dunes. There is also a short boardwalk to a viewing area.If you walk far enough, you'll eventually see views of The Sound.Wear appropriate footwear and expect blowing sand. Also expect crowds with tour and/or school groups.

Cynthia Edmonds — Google review

Highly recommend visiting! We only had about 36 hours in the Outer Banks and we chose to do this. Free to visit. Went about an hour and a half before sunset. There’s a parking lot with plenty of spots and then at the little building they have a men’s and women’s bathroom. Plenty of stalls if you were with a group. We didn’t wear our shoes on the dunes so if you wear them, I recommend bringing a book bag to put them in. Also recommend sunglasses especially if it’s windy, because the sand blows into your eyes. 😆

Gabrielle Hughes — Google review

We rode by and saw the people out on the dunes from the road so I looked it up and found the Jockeys Ridge state park. I told my husband it would be neat to go out there and take a look. It was incredible to see all of the sand dunes here! You wouldn't expect to see so many huge sand dunes comparable to what it must be like in the dessert just a much smaller scale. My husband explained to me how it reminded him of his deployments. It's a fun family friendly place to go and explore and play. You can see the beach from both sides at the very top of the sand dunes. We will have to come back one day with our boys.

Angelica Denham — Google review

Worth the exhaustion of climbing all the dudes and fighting the wind. Incredible views and memories with my kids. Don't skip this place if you're visiting OBX. Pay a little bit more for a better kite at the kitty hawk kites store across the street and it was a great investment.

Jacqueline Kretzer — Google review

Jockey Ridge State Park is just awesome! Picture this: you're surrounded by massive sand dunes, with the ocean in the distance. It's the perfect spot for kite flying or a leisurely hike on the trails. Whether you're into adventure or just chilling out, this park has it all. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

Nook Hanklang — Google review

Beautiful! We went twice at sunset during our stay in the OBX. One day was really windy, but the sand blowing over the dunes was really neat. Both days had beautiful sunsets and weren’t crowded. We went during the off season (March), so I’m not sure how crowded it gets in summer

Allison Abel — Google review

Absolutely beautiful!! Waited for the sunset which was spectacular. Did a time lapse of the sunset. The park closed at 6 pm due to being in the off season; however, the park ranger was great and understood that the sunset would be after 6 pm and allowed for extra time. A must see. Be prepared to climb a steep dune following a scenic boardwalk to an observation area.

Wendy George — Google review

Fun time climbing the dunes. Great to do on a cooler day. Great views all around. The sand is packed and wind blown so not a hard climb through the sand.

Rob Spitler — Google review

So much fun to come with the kids and learn about the dunes in NC and fly a kite. I’m very glad we stopped. The dunes were massive compared to what I was expecting after having been to the beach all week. The indoor restrooms were very nice (didn’t use the ones outside). There were vending machines and picnic tables along w an area to rise the sand off.

Shelby Roberts — Google review

Jockey's Ridge was one of the places on my must visit list while doing a lighthouse tour along the Outer Banks. It's a phenomenal place that feels otherworldly while being located in such a bustling location. The dunes and sheer amount of sand stretching to the horizon is amazing. It was a fun experience running up the dunes with warm sand under my feet. This is also the eastern end of the state's Mountains to Sea Trail.

Charles Pinney — Google review

We decided on a whim to visit Jockey's Ridge State Park, and I am glad we did. We went earlier in the day when it was very windy after a night of rain. My son and I walked the boardwalk to the end, and then decided to see what these dunes were all.about. First, we climbed a steep hill, but once we got to the top we were greeted by an open area of dunes, and a view, in the distant, of the Roanoke Sound. Nature is so beautiful and awesome because the dunes are majestic. After that we drove to the other entrance right on the Roanoke Sound beach. This section was more about the water, and less about the dunes. Even so, it is still impressive. And to watch people parasail the Roanoke Sound was equally impressive. Make sure to dress accordingly for not only the temperature, but also the wind.

Concerts & Shows

The Lost Colony outdoor theater in Manteo stages an annual summer musical about the Roanoke Island. The production is well-acted and creates a unique ambience with actors and extras walking through the crowd in period dress before the show. The setting sun framed by the woods adds to the magical atmosphere of this theatrical experience. The sound quality is excellent, and every seat offers a great view of the performance. It's highly recommended as a must-visit destination for those visiting OBX.

Incredible. The stage is framed by the setting sun in the woods and created an ambience second to no theater or production I have seen to date. Well-acted and interactive, with actors and extras walking through the crowd in period dress before the show. It really should be high on the many reasons to visit Manteo list while in OBX. The sound was excellent and there didn't appear to be a bad seat in the house. It held the attention of my 3 boys - ages between 7 and 11 years old, through the whole production. It was a magical night. We haven't been to OBX since, but this is a destination once we return.

Bill Ruffalo — Google review

Very grand, huge production in an outdoor open air theater. It was like a musical production like you might see at Busch Gardens theater. Main actors sang to canned music. Lighting flashed against the backdrop of wood, trees to create scenes. The animal puppets were portrayed by twig outlines with glowing eyes moved by costumed actors. We came away with mixed feelings about Lost Colony. You will have to decide for yourself. Be prepared. It's 2 hours long. And they do cancel because of rain.

What a great performance with a gorgeous and historic backdrop! We've been going to the outer banks for some years now and finally had the opportunity to see this show. We saw the late show which was fun with the lighting after the sun went down. Recommended for families and couples, alike. Lots of snacks and drink options, including beer and wine. Gift shop on site. Walking trails leading to the water are the BEST!

A must see when going to OBX, got our tickets online, skipped the insurance part risking losing money in case of cancellation. So lucky we got good weather, watching the well produced play under the stars is such a treat. view is good no matter where you’re seated. Such a team of talented actors and actresses, very nice sound system, lighting, and projected images adds drama to the show, show is 2 hours long with 15 minutes intermission. After the show you can take pictures, or have autographs with some of the cast. Gift shop, snacks, beer and wine available inside. Clean bathrooms, plenty of parking. It would be helpful if you brief your entourage esp the young ones about the history- it helps make them appreciate the show better.

If you love history like i do it is such a cool stop to make. If you want something to WOW you might want to pass. It is historically amazing just to know you are on such significant grounds, but there is not alot to view. I loved it ans enjoyed the walk and being next to the water and I'm happy to cross it off bucket list.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Not only were the grounds gorgeous through the Elizabeth gardens (although that is separate), the lost colony is a must see on your visit to the Outer Banks.

Sydney Nobles — Google review

The lost colony of 118 men, women, and children. In 1585 Sir Walter Raleigh from England funded an expedition to find a suitable place to expand its empire and to keep the Spanish from claiming all of the land for themselves. John Smith landed on Roanoke Island in 1587, but was wanting to settle on Chesapeake Bay. They ended up trying to repair the Fort left by the two earlier expeditions but because of a lack of supplies John Smith returned to England and it took him three years to return. When he returned he found everyone gone including his own family. Before he sailed back to England, his daughter gave birth to a girl they called Virginia Dare and is documented as the first English birth in the New World which this county is now called Dare County. John Smith founded Jamestown 20 years later where he befriended Pocahontas.

What a fantastic show. The use of projection really makes it an amazing immersive experience. The backstage tour was okay. The presenters made it better but the content was just okay, not worth the $29.90 per person price imo.

A wonderful show with a great Native American preshow. They have new seating from last year. The video production effects are great! When we went it was chilly and we could bring a blanket with no problems. Group rates start at 15+ which was unfortunate for our group of 10 but there isn't a bad seat in the house.

This is a great outdoor drama, with a waterfront amphitheatre. The entire family, young and old will enjoy it. The production is quite well done and the performance completely draws you in. Our son especially enjoyed the sword fighting scenes.Spend the extra money to get the behind the scenes tour before the show starts. It is well worth it.

My family came to see this, show for the first time back in 15. We loved it so much that as soon as we found out they had a season for 2021, we quickly got tickets. Still enjoyable even after a few years. Worth the price of admission, and definitely worth an evening.

Took our party of 9 to see The Lost Colony based on reviews and a few websites I read. It was just Ehh. I mean, we've seen several outdoor play/drama performances similar to this one and it ranked about mid way, wasn't the worst, not the best. It felt a little long. The story was difficult to follow at times. Thankfully, I had read up on it a little prior to the show. My memory for history is not the best. The setting is beautiful though. They have snacks, popcorn, dipping dots, candy and bottled drinks. There are some strobe lights and loud bangs if you are sensitive to those things, be aware. It wasn't too expensive, about $20 a person. I wouldn't pay anymore for it and I wouldn't pay for closer seating. We sat in the very middle, upper section and could see everything fine. We took teenagers that said they enjoyed it. Small kids in front of us were squirming quite a bit and seemed to lose interest.

Gardens

Elizabethan Gardens is a historical site that showcases antique statuary and offers audio tours and rental space. The garden boasts stunning plant displays, walking paths, beautiful flowers, trees, and a butterfly room. Visitors can also learn about the rich history of the gardens through informative signs and plaques scattered around the area. It is a recommended destination for people of all ages who enjoy nature's beauty and want to immerse themselves in a magical experience.

My fiance and myself visited here during our vacation and we had a wonderful time. Beautiful walking paths, gorgeous flowers, trees and other plants. The butterfly room was also nice and a lot of fun. Learned a little history thanks to some of signs and plaques posted around the gardens, which is nice for a history buff like myself. We spent hours walking the paths and taking in the sights. Fully recommend for everyone of all ages. It's a beautiful, almost magical place to visit.

Steven Fann — Google review

We visited the gardens for the butterfly release and enjoyed it immensely. Our daughters loved watching the butterflies come to life and fly away before their eyes. The staff educated us on what butterflies enjoy and what we could add to our gardens to keep them happy and returning. We were even able to purchase a few plants at the small greenhouse they have on the grounds. Not to mention the beauty and serenity of the gardens. All of the hydrangeas were in full bloom and beautiful. It was like walking through a fairytale.

Ashley Hart — Google review

The concept is great. A wonderful photo opportunity, if you're willing and able to pay the entry (which when you have multiple people adds up). So much potential, however, the grounds are not well-kept. Not clean and tidy. Tons of spider webs on the trails. And make sure you take bug spray for the tons of mosquitoes!! Not quite sure it's totally worth the entry fee, so it's probably a one-time visit for us.

Amateur Celebs Act1347 — Google review

Visited in early April. The spring flowers were in full bloom and gorgeous. I especially enjoyed the beautiful camellias. It was a great level walk as we were with my 80yo mother in law. Also they had a fairy hunt for the kids which seemed to keep them entertained (we didn't have children with us. )

Absolutely delightful time at the gardens for May, so relaxing and picturesque. We had no wait at all and it wasn't very crowded despite it being midday and so we were able to walk around and experience almost everything pretty much undisturbed. You may want to bring or wear bug spray however when you purchase tickets in the cute gift shop entry way they also have extra there for purchase if you forget. We saw not only flowers, trees and statues but many birds, butterflies and small animals. You can also visit their greenhouse and purchase plants of your own!

My wife and I visited the Elizabethan Gardens in 2022 near Christmas and it was magnificent, albeit a little bit cold. We went for a day time viewing but as it drew closer to closing for the day crowd you could begin to see the festive lights that were for the night time visits (these included hot cocoa and the full effect of the light display). Everything was great here and I would love to visit again perhaps in the spring to see even more in bloom. It is definitely worth a stop in and everyone, including the cat, was very friendly and helpful. If you decide on a winter viewing be sure to dress warmly and drink plenty of cocoa!

If you are looking for a stunning outdoor stroll, it simply does not get better than the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo, North Carolina! We visited the gardens during the first week in May and were treated to stunning flowers, meticulously cared for plants, and awe-inspiring trees. The gardens are a beautiful combination of old and new. The air is sweet, and the shaded paths are welcoming. My mom is in a wheelchair and we no problems navigating the beauty of these gardens on the well-maintained paths. Our group ranged in age from 10 to 71 and we all equally enjoyed our time at the Elizabethan Gardens. Bees are busy at work, fountains are bubbling, and you can’t help but feel happy in a place this beautiful. We chose to go to the gardens on a Sunday morning. There were very few people and it provided ample time to read more about the gardens and plant displays. There was even an area of the gardens that had rocking chairs on a shaded porch. – What a fantastic way to make life slow down and soak up the beauty of nature at its finest. Don’t miss this jewel on the Outer Banks. It really is exceptional!

THIS PLACE IS MAGNIFICENT!We came 10 years ago, & it's even more beautiful now. So peaceful, well kept, we could have spent an entire day here. Well worth the trip.We went on a Monday and it wasn't busy at all.

We visited during the winter wonder lights. Beautiful setting to have a nice evening walk around the gardens. They also had hot chocolate, water and S'mores kits for sale. Free marshmallows at the fire pit.

Pat Franklin — Google review

We visited on a Thursday in late December 2023 (after Christmas). We did not actually go into the gardens but went into the little shop area. It looked like the gardens were decorated for winter event with lights. There is a cost associated with going into the gardens. Not sure if this is the case year round or just for the lights event. The price wasn't necessarily cheap but reasonable. You could see a little bit just outside through the gate. If we were staying longer would've considered it.We really did not budget time to do the Gardens during our trip but hope to come by again and plan a little better to explore. The shop did have a lot of nice merch and nick-nacks. Worth a stop if you're at the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site anyways.

My wife and I did a guided Camelia tour in late February, it was awesome. We're coming back when it's warmer and lots more activities.

Brian Cadle — Google review

While i do not frequent the gardens, they do a yearly christmas lights event through december that is fantastic. The gardens have been here for many years and have improved with new plantlife every year! Enjoy the flowers, statues, and enormous trees when you visit!

We visit every time we are in the area and enjoy the beauty of the gardens in every season.

Museums

The Wright Brothers National Memorial is a must-visit attraction in the outer banks with an admission fee of around $10. However, it's free for those who have an America annual pass. This site offers visitors the chance to stand at the take-off spot where the first successful airplane flight was tested and explore exhibits that provide detailed information about this historic event. Additionally, there is a gift shop on-site where you can collect souvenirs or magnets.

Took our 10-year-old grandson and we thoroughly enjoyed this visit. There is a small museum with a detailed history of the family and lives of the Wright Brothers. It was very interesting and gives a great insight into the area and the lives of the brothers as well as the locals during that period. There is a replica of the plane and it was very interesting to see and try to comprehend how someone was able to visualize and build something that would prove to be the beginning of air travel. My grandson found it fascinating. When you leave the museum you can see a replica of the living quarters of Orville and Wilbur Wright and the hangar where they built the plane. There are markers that showed the lengths of the first four flights. There are well made walkways from one area to the other. You can take a short walk to Jockey's Ridge and climb the large sand dune (paved walkway) up to the Wright Brother's Memorial. It is beautiful and you have beautiful views of the area and the ocean. On the back side of Jockey's Ridge is a metal replica of the plane and children (and young-at-heart adults) can climb and play on it. There are life-size statues as well of the locals who assisted the brothers. When you go into the museum young children can get a Junior Rangers booklet and complete the "assignments" as they tour the area and earn a Junior Ranger's badge. There is something for all ages and a very interesting recap of a huge part of NC history. Well worth the $10 entrance fee, and that one fee is good for 7 days.

Very busy but very awesome spot. A nice visitor center with gift shop. Highly recommended buying your park pass online before coming; it will save a little time at the ranger station (which usually has a wait to get in). If you go inside, they are still masking for COVID, but they do offer them at the door if you forgot yours. Outside, there is a good bit of walking that you can do all over the grounds to see the flight markers (note there is little shade). The parking lot fills fast, but they do have overflow parking in the field nearby (look for signs). There is a place to refill water bottles, which is nice. Definitely recommend the hike up to the monument for the view!

Prepare to walk! Though you can drive to the base of the dune before walking up to the monument.Went here as a kid and now brought my kids and it’s even better than I remember. The museum has enough information in it without being so much the kids get bored. Outside there isn’t a lot to look at but the historical significance makes it worth it. And the view from the top of the dune is amazing!Definitely go. And as all national parks in the area, like the lighthouses, tickets are priced well and kids 15 and under are FREE!!!

See where aviation began by exploring the Wright Brothers National Monument. While the large obelisk is on a huge sand bar that the Wright Brothers used for some of their experiments, the actual successful flight of their machine took place near the visitor center. If you can, visit as soon as the monument opens when it's cooler (if you're there in the summer). I suggest driving to the obelisk on the hill first because there's quite a steep climb (parking is nearby all around the base). The visitor center is air conditioned so it's a nice way to cool down after your hike. While you can walk to the obelisk from the visitor center, it's quite far. On a hot day, driving is your best option. After the obelisk, drive around the back and stop at the bronze replica of the first flight complete with statues showing the other men there. The museum inside the visitor center is interesting, but it's not as comprehensive on the lives of the Wright Brothers as I would have liked. However, you do learn about their achievements with flying and it's a great reminder to anyone (especially kids - if parents point it out to them) that failure is a learning opportunity and VERY relative. The Wright Brothers failed A LOT more than they succeeded and yet we're still talking about them today and they are in no small part the reason we've been to space!

Chris Pontillo — Google review

Awesome 360 views. Very neat experience and a must-see when visiting OBX! History was made here! It's amazing to realize how far aviation has come in less than 120 years since the first flight of just 852 feet.

Matthew Truett — Google review

Getting into the park can take some time and the line of cars can really get backed up. The inside museum is great for a not too long air conditioned walk around. Walking the actual flight path is sombering in a way to see how far we have come in a century of flight. Walking up the hill to the actual memorial is quite a trek but worth it for the views. It's worth going to but definitely a ton of walking so bring the right (see what I did there?) shoes!

This is a great National Park. We got there just in time for the last talk, where she told the story of the Wright Brothers. She did an excellent job and was very engaging. It was fun to hear how many times the Wrights traveled to NC to accomplish their goal.Going in January be prepared for wind and cold. Also, you don't have to walk from the visitor center up the hill. You can drive around and get quite a bit closer. You will still have to tackle the hill though!

Nice spot to stop by if you are traveling in outer banks. It has entrance fee (I think $10) but if you beautiful America annual pass then it will be freeThe highlights are1. The visiting center has very well information about Journey of how first flight was tested successfully.2. There is gift shop to collect gifts or magnets3. Outside you have many activitiesYou can walk through the tracks where first flight tested4. You can walk towards memorial or go bay car as there is parking near by memorialRest you can enjoy and take photos

A great way to spend an hour or two when visiting the Outer Banks. I always enjoy learning about the history of major milestones in American and World history. The site is very handicapped accessible but it is important to note that if you have trouble walking, bring a wheelchair and a kind person who is willing to push you up the hill to see the monument up close. The paths up to the monument are paved and they have a ramp at the entrance of the museum. Inside the museum the exhibits are arranged to allow easy navigation with a wheelchair. Great place to enjoy the sunshine and get some exercise!

The Abled Traveler — Google review

This national monument is so clean. The staff is super friendly. Water in the water fountains was not cold much to our dismay after the long trek up kil devil hill in the heat. The monument is very beautiful, but getting there is rough. If you are in a wheelchair, use a cane or crutches while "accessible" it is unlikely you will get yourself to the top without help. The visitor center was picturesque. Friendly staff. They held a learning opportunity under a large white tent due to heat.

Jenifer Wittman — Google review

Pretty cool memorial. The visitor center is very informative. Staffed with knowledgeable park rangers. The exhibits inside and out are very well done. The markers displaying how far they flew in the first flights are awesome. They have a path so you can try to beat the distance and time.

Paul Stephens — Google review

Incredibly well done memorial and park honoring an amazing story and some truly great engineers and inventors. The museum is very entertaining and educational. It was thrilling to walk the path of our first flight.

Arcavore — Google review

An amazing national park that does a great job of explaining the history of flight and the Wright Brothers. The hill walk is nice, the monument is quite large, and there are exhibits that offer something for different age groups throughout each part of the park.

M Z — Google review

It was insanely windy (we went end of April and knew it was going to be cold but still!) and a good climb to the top but anyone can walk to the memorial at the top of the big hill. It’s a driveable loop around that memorial with some informational plaques places around the loop and some public bathrooms. There’s also an indoors museum where you can take refuge from the wind and learn about all the gliders they made and the successes and failures the Wright brothers endured. About 3 times a day, the museum will have a live informational “show” where they’ll go up to the replica and talk about the history of the Wright family.

Kate Lelegren — Google review

This was a surreal moment for me. As a pilot, coming here and learning about how it all started, the ups and downs of their efforts and all they have contributed to aviation was amazing. Loved seeing the rock markers of each of the 4 first flights, the memorial and the statues of the first flight were great. I recommend spending at least 4 hours here to be able to read everything and walk the grounds. There is plenty of parking, clean bathrooms and a water refill station here.

James Kitahara — Google review

A lot to learn about the trials and tribulations that was involved with humans learning to fly. The overall site has a lot of walking and steep hills to see the monument but everything is accessible. You might need assistance getting up the hills as the slope exceeds ADA guidelines. The park rangers here are very helpful and willing to answer any questions you may have. There is a decent view of the site and kill devil hills from the monument.

John Van Riper — Google review

Great stop! The museum had some interesting exhibits and the grounds were a walk through the Wright brothers' adventure. The climb to the monument was a little challenging for older folks, but the view was so worth it!

Robin North — Google review

This place was awesome! The museum was very nice and the staff were well informed on the history. The grounds are beautiful. You can walk the runway from the first flight. There is a monument on top of the dune where they flew gliders before trying a motorized aircraft. You really shouldn't go to the OBX without seeing this place.

Mike J — Google review

I was able to get in for free thanks to being with some seniors who had a park pass, but I’m rating this like I had to pay full price. The admission was $10 per person, which seems excessive for what was available. There is a small museum, and rangers available to give a 30 minute tour. Our group lost interest in the ranger tour about half way in, and did their own thing. This is essentially a big open field with a few monuments depicting where the Wright brothers took off and landed, as well as a hanger and a hanger they converted to their living quarters. There is also a huge memorial at the top of the hill. The memorial was the best part, as it gave outstanding views of the surrounding area.If I had to pay full price, I would have been upset at what was there. It might be worth taking kids there as an educational experience, but you have to pay per person, not per car (as I am used to with National Parks). There is maybe an hour worth of entertainment here if you really take your time. I would definitely not recommend going out of your way to visit.

Dan — Google review

Such a fun outing. Ample parking, clearly marked paths and great air conditioning and restrooms. This would be a great place to bring children, there are many opportunities to run and discover. The gift shop was neatly filled with appropriate treasures- books, postcards, shirts, maps and trinkets for all.The park ranger, Adonis, gave a lively storytelling inside the building which we thoroughly enjoyed. We walked to all the sites outside and the view from the monument atop Big Kill Devil Hill is beautiful, you can see the sea. I’m a grandmother and I learned plenty I didn’t already know! Super fun ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

lara mijatovich — Google review

There’s nothing like this place with a ranger tour to make the first flight and the history of aviation to come alive! With all the books I’ve read on flying, nothing did as much as this to make it visceral. Cannot recommend enough!

Chadwick Brewer — Google review

Excellent stop for any flight, history or NC enthusiast. NC is famous for two types of flight…1. Orville and Wilbur and their first successful flight with a manned powered aircraft.2. Michael JordanStop by this monument to see an awesome view, especially for sunrises or sunsets! We visited in late December it was chilly and very windy.

M Dean — Google review

An absolute must visit but very ready for a mild hike to the top. The museum is also a must see with a theater. You can also receive a unique stamp for the national state parks. Such a beautiful view from the top of the monument. Dogs are welcome on the grounds but not inside the museum.

Wendy George — Google review

Very cool piece of history. It was super windy so we didn't walk out to the memorial but the visitor center was fun to walk through. Lots of information and there was a presentation by a very knowledgeable staff member about the plane and how it worked.

Visited in October 2014—an interesting piece of local and aviation history. In a nutshell: On December 17, 1903, the Wright Brothers achieved a monumental feat in aviation history with the first powered, controlled flight of a heavier-than-air aircraft. This inaugural flight lasted 12 seconds, covered 120 feet (approximately 36.6 meters), reached a top speed of 6.8 miles per hour (about 10.9 kilometers per hour), and attained an altitude of approximately 10 feet (around 3 meters).

Jan Rosenberg — Google review

As visitors to the area from the Dayton, OH area we had to stop at this memorial and check it out. I’m so glad we did - it was a wonderful visit. Climbing the hill to the memorial helps you understand why the Wright brothers came so far to make their first flight - they needed that elevation and the warm air off the water. The memorial is beautiful and the visitors’ center is super informative!

Jen McKinney — Google review

An amazing experience. You get to walk in the footsteps of aviation giants. The museum takes about an hour if you read every display and take your time. The gift shop is small but has some great memorabilia. The hike up the hill to get to the monument is long but it's worth the view.

Soar through history at the Wright Brothers National Memorial! This iconic landmark in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, isn't just a monument, it's an immersive experience into the lives and achievements of the aviation pioneers.Prepare for liftoff: Be aware that the monument sits atop Kill Devil Hill, so comfortable shoes and a willingness to climb are essential. The reward? Breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the very spot where the Wright brothers made history.Beyond the granite: While the 60-foot granite monument is impressive, the true gems lie within the Wright Brothers Visitor Center. Interactive exhibits bring their story to life, showcasing their meticulous experiments, countless failures, and ultimate triumph.Step back in time: Explore the reconstructed 1903 hangar where they built their flying machine, and peek inside their original living quarters. Imagine their dedication and perseverance as you stand on the very ground where they launched their dreams.

Juan Luis Gutierrez — Google review

I visited here at the end of November. There was a lot of crowd. The ranger gave nice explanations with props. The tour has 3 parts.1. Ranger: Explain the history and significance of the Wright brothers. This is valuable info for 4th and up children.2. Museum: It's nice with lots of information. All you need is some inquisitive mind about aerospace and history. A wonderful combination of science+history+geography.3. Statue/Memorial: A giant memorial for wright brothers on top of a hill. The information board is well written and spaced. The first flight attempts are well recorded and marked by stones.Standing here you can really feel their excitement, hard work, efforts, sense of failure and achievement.

This is a Monument to a Century of Flight and was dedicated in 2003 on the centennial of powered flight. Inside the orbit of 14 wing shaped pylons are about 4500 bricks engraved with messages of sponsors from around the World. The stainless steel pylons have engraved accomplishments and images of the 100 most significant accomplishments in the first century of powered flight. The granite monument at the entrance is a poem called "High Flight". The superb welcome center across the parking lot is a great place to begin your exploration of the amazing area. The two ladies inside are great ambassadors for the community.

I wouldn't make a special trip to see as it's essentially just a monument within a roadside rest area, but certainly worth a stop if it's along the way. Nice to see that the exhibit was comprehensive in acknowledging other non-American aviation and aerospace accomplishments (e.g. French, Soviet...)

Very nice little memorial I especially like the historical timeline the metal can get a little toasty but other than that I really enjoyed it

Gives you history about how first flight flown and where we are now...This is near kitty hawk visitor area. I am not sure why it is not in wright brother’s memorial as that memorial ground is really huge. There are 12-14 pillars and each pillar describe time line of first flight to first shuttle till now. We love playing escape rooms. It’s a great way to spend time with family and friends, while having fun. The game masters were very nice, and helped make sure we were having a nice time. The owner was absolutely amazing; she took the time to talk to us and go out of her way to make us feel welcome. You can tell she’s proud of the rooms she’s created—and she deserves to be. It’s owned by her and her husband, who are both retired from the Military and we appreciate their service. They write their own stories for the rooms and, design them, and do most of the building. We originally only had three rooms scheduled, but they were so much fun we did a fourth one too. We can’t wait to be able to go back and play the other rooms they have there.

Rosie May — Google review

We have done 5 different games while here on vacation. Each one has been so much fun! I highly recommend checking out this place. The owners are very dedicated and you can tell that this is their passion! The staff was also fantastic! Shot out to Michael, Alyssa, Pierce and Jack! Will definitely come back next year to see the updates and play the ones we haven’t played yet!

Fantastic experience. At the last minute, we decided to see if we could have our family member with severe autism join the fun. He did not make the whole experience, but we were so impressed at how the staff went above and beyond to offer multiple accommodations to increase the odds of success - they gave a preview tour of the room, offered additional lighting elements, turned down the audio volume, and provided a chair where he could sit. The level of concern and interest from everyone there was lovely and encouraging. Kudos to Vik and the rest of the staff!

Wow; OBXscape Rooms is absolutely crushing it! What a wonderful experience we had. My initial call with Christina was amazing; she is kind, patient, and took the time to help me get our event set up. We were so lucky to book something same day! Had a group of 8 with 2 kids ages 5-50s; everyone had the best time and raved about it for days after. The only one that did not like it was the 5 yo; it was scary for her but not intolerable. We did Cell Block 4 Death Row. So fun to have our names included in the game. Hannah was our game host; she is fabulous. Highly recommend making this part of your beach trip. We will be back for more!

Heather Carper — Google review

What a great experience! We solved the murder of Dawn Renee with Alyssa as our helper with only 2 minutes and 40 seconds left. The atmosphere and scares were perfect, and the puzzles were challenging, but not impossible!Hands down my favorite part of the game was the “delivery” of a certain clue.Definitely check this place out if you enjoy escape rooms and love rooms with excellent theming and puzzles that make you think. We will absolutely be back for more!!!

On vacation and was looking for something fun to do. So glad we came across this place. We all had a great time!! Shout out to Allison and Rory who did a fantastic job. So friendly and accommodating when we were running very late for the last time slot of the night. We didn't feel rushed and they still took the time at the end to answer questions and explain what we missed. Was nice that it was baby friendly since we are from out of town so didnt have a babysitter. Def. Will come back next year.

We came during our Spring break trip this year and decided to try the Cold Case murder. We had a great time traveling back to the 80's and working together to figure out the clues. I went with a group of 8 people while on vacation in the Outer Banks, and we did the Blind Tiger Speakeasy escape room. It was a lot of fun and was challenging, even with the larger group. Some of us had done a lot of escape games before, while others had not, and this one proved to be perfect for all skill levels. The puzzles were engaging, and the level of detail in the room was very immersive and cool!Afterward, we were treated to a sneak peek at a couple of the other rooms, and they looked amazing! There is a new one called Raptor Revenge, which will be a delight for Jurassic Park fans. Although we did not have time to do it while on our short vacation, we could tell it was going to be incredible from the peek we got at the room. It was insanely cool looking! All of the staff members at OBXscape Rooms were so nice, helpful, and friendly! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for something fun and different to do on your Outer Banks vacation!

We did Raptor Revenge with Ali as our game guide and it was awesome!! The room looked amazing! The puzzles definitely made us think, but none seemed unreasonably difficult, especially with a couple hints from Ali! She was very helpful and was super excited for us when we escaped!

We love Escape rooms and always try to get one in on vacation! Let me tell you... this place was amazing as soon as you walked thru the door! Enthusiastic young staff! We did the Blind Tiger Speak Easy, which has quite a high difficulty level. I paid no attention to that when booking. The room was GORGEOUS! One of the most well appointed in any Escape rooms we've done! The puzzles were top notch! SO FUN! We came right down to the last clue and lost! But such a wonderful room! Definitely recommend this fine establishment! Thank you to our Game Master and all the staff for an AWESOME afternoon!

Suzie Q — Google review

OBXcape has been a staple of our annual vacations. You will not regret going to this establishment. It's not a room you escape but an experience, Each game I've played has been multiple rooms with special lighting and sound effects fitting the theme, the owners go so far as to even give us prison jumpsuits to wear in CellBlock!. The guides are wonderful (special shout out to Zaniyah!). They follow your progress and will let you know if you are spending too much time going down the wrong path so you can pivot your play without actually giving a hint. The puzzles are varied and just the right level of challenging.

We had a great time playing Cell Block 4. There were six of us playing, all adults. We did not beat the clock but the puzzles were awesome and challenging. Pierce was great with helping us figure out some things. Highly recommended!

Robyn C — Google review

Fantastic place. Pierce was a great guide for our run through the Mutiny on the Lark room. Very well done, great props and clues. We're amateurs for sure so we needed a little guidance. Pierce was able to help minimally so we could figure it out unless we needed more assistance. Will be back again for sure.

Jon Mc — Google review

Awesome escape room! We did the Mutiny on the Lark, super challenging but fun the whole time. Our host Kyla did an amazing job of pushing us in the right direction without giving away any secrets. Starting our whole team off in shackles was a crazy twist! I've done quite a few escape rooms and none of them ever made me feel like I was really a character in the story like this one did. Super immersive, well designed, great props, great puzzles, and overall a ton of fun. I wouldn't try this one unless you've already got a few under your belt, but if you're looking for a real challenge you've come to the right place. Good luck!

Very exciting, challenging and scary! The staff was very helpful and clear 😸😸especially josh. Josh is definitely the best employee i have ever interacted with. He made the mystery very fun and scary. josh is new but is already amazing, he is strong hearted and has an incredible sense of humor, as well as great communication skills. The staff is very helpful and kind including Ali and Chase. The lady greeting at the front was really nice and welcoming. The suspense and atmosphere is really well put together especially when Josh spoke to us. they had the room ready quick, there was no wait and we got right down to business with Josh’s help. Over all a 100/10 experience and I would recommend it to anyone in the Outer Banks.

We had so much fun!! We did the nautical room and the office. We were successful with only one and sooooooooo close in the next. Family friendly, pet friendly, great employees, fun, very interesting, and original room designs. Just before the bridge onto the beach in point harbor. A must! Thanks Janet for a wonderful evening of fun!!!!

We did the Nautical Room and did have a great time. The staff was very friendly and we felt very welcomed. The room was fun for our group of four, the clues were creative. The room was well done.I gave four stars instead of five because we had to ask for two clues, due to problems within the room. One of the clues had a wrong color displayed and another clue in invisible ink had rubbed off and was impossible to see. The gamemaster had to redraw the clue in ink while we were playing. Overall, we still had a great experience and got out with 3 minutes to spare, but we wasted a LOT of time looking for a missing clue that wasn't there. In their defense, the people who played the room before us took a bunch of keys from the room, so she was running to get the room back up and running. Overall it was a fun experience, just need to improve a few clues so they are more permanent and correct. Thanks for a fun day!!

Discovered Escape the OBX while on vacation. My mom, 5 year old daughter and I completed the Enchanted Fairy Garden. Such a great time! Ways for all of us to participate and still challenging. I've only done an escape room one other time. Usually they are cost prohibitive because you have to purchase the whole room to participate with just your family but not with Escape the OBX. I was super impressed by how family friendly, fun, and affordable this great adventure was. A true gem in the OBX. Look forward to future visits!

We did the Nautical Room with 3 adults and 4 children ages 4, 7, adults 10, 12. Although it was tight, even the children were able to find clues and help us find the treasure. Great details and props, fun hidden clues and doors!!! Great for all ages to work together! We did ask for 3 clues but managed to escape in time!!We also did the Wacky Wizard with 2 adults and 2 children ages 10 and 12 and it was AMAZING!! Well thought out spells and scientific experiments. The kids had so much fun mixing potions! We only asked for 1 clue in this room and escaped with 9 minutes left. This room is easier than the Nautical Room. Highly recommend!

Rebecca Nixon — Google review

Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms were unique and not quite like any of the ~10 I had done before. The Office room is one big room with lots to explore, and their newest room is sure to be a treat! We had both experienced and brand-new players in our family group, and got the new ones hooked. All their rooms are family friendly too. Highly recommended, would play again, and a great value.

Tim Jenks — Google review

Loved it! This was our first escape room experience and we really enjoyed it. A lot of fun and the staff was great. We picked the most difficult room and didn't get out (ha!) but it was still fun. Would definitely do it again!

Jolena Fonke — Google review

My co-workers planned a surprise birthday gathering here for me. We had a blast! We were in "The Office" and the clues were so creative! It was so fun and challenging, and will definitely make you think! The staff was very friendly and patient with us. :)

Theresa Powell — Google review

I have to say, first time escape room for me, my girlfriend, and mother. First of all the lady was so helpful and polite when we walked in the door. She answered every question we had and made sure we were ready to go in to our first room, the office. It was pretty challenging, we didn’t succeed unfortunately, however a wonderful experience without a doubt! We also go an opportunity to try the enchanted forest. The enchanted forest was by far more interactive and really made you look around and think about the clues! All in all, a positive, enjoyable experience from all of us, would reccomend to anyone willing to try a escape room! Very impressed with how well the rooms are set up!

Water & Amusem*nt Parks

H2OBX Waterpark is a popular destination for families and thrill-seekers alike. This theme park offers a diverse range of rides and attractions, including slides, wave pools, and a lazy river. Guests can also enjoy casual dining options during their visit. It is recommended to bring aqua shoes or footwear if staying all day due to the hot concrete surfaces.

I had such an amazing experience here with my family. There is such a wide assortment and variety of rides—we stayed all day and still could’ve been entertained for hours longer. Highly recommend. There’s also a great restaurant called Simply Southern Kitchen right down the road that made for a great dinner after we left here!

Tanner Keen — Google review

Make sure to either wear water shoes or wear your flip flops from slide to slide or any of the attractions. They have concrete walkways that are extremely hot and will burn blisters into your feet.( a life guard yelled at us to get off the grass but the walk way was way too hot to walk on without getting 3rd degree burns) The kids loved every part of it. So many slides . The kid area there wasn't much wait to go down the slides. I'm the adult area the lines to the slides were long however fairly shaded. The family rides were really fun and the line moves pretty quickly. All of the lines required multiple step climbing of course. There is a kids wave pool and an more extreme one the kids loved. The food was pretty good as well. However pricy.

Google User — Google review

Our kids absolutely loved this place. It was a 45 minute drive from where we stayed in Corolla. There were plenty of options for younger kids all the way up to adults. The Lazy River had a nice pace and was long enough to enjoy it for a decent amount of time. The giant wave pool ran on a decent pace providing people with waves, but also calm waters at times. We ordered the pretzels since that was the best bang for your buck. All of the staff was friendly and did a good job even though they seemed like high school to college kids. Be aware they have a weird rule with bringing in water bottles. They have to be empty but you can fill them up once you get inside with cold water. Also, they close at 6:00 p.m. which seemed a little early to me. The pricing was fair for admission. We went on a Wednesday since kids were discounted that day.

Greg Walter — Google review

Great water park! One thing you must bring if you plan on staying all day! Aqua 👟!!!! The concrete is a killer in the summer heat! The staff was the best. And the food is really good for a park. Parking is plentiful. The lazy river is a great way to pass time in the heat.

Rick Crites — Google review

Cleanest water park EVER!! We were vacationing from Ohio and decided to check out the park. It was such a great atmosphere. Water was clean. Bathrooms clean. Lines moved quickly. Staff was nice. Wish they'd allow more items to enter the park, especially water but definitely understand why! Thanks for an amazing day!

Miranda Terry — Google review

Does not look like much from the road. Free parking. Very clean park, and the staff were very friendly and pleasant. Lifeguards are in abundant supply. Food is ok. Alcohol is typical. Not the price gouging one is used to at other parks. Will go back!

Robert Calimer — Google review

We got a huge discount for tickets through credit union, 12 dollars off. Went a weekday in summer and purchased tickets in advance. No wait line, and front gate parking arriving just at opening. Stayed till 4:30 never got over crowded or long wait line for slides. Food is decent and decently priced for park food. Umbrellas are huge with plenty of seating. Very clean! I suggest water shoes of flip flops concrete gets very hot.

Greyson Rizo — Google review

Nice clean waterpark, plenty of water rides catering to all ages. Cant bring outside food, food inside is little expensive but ok. You can bring 1 unopened water bottle. If you have budget cabanas are recommended for comfort while staying inside the waterpark. Friendly employees throughout the park and. Vigilant life guards at all rides.

Ed R — Google review

Great place, clean .. and oh the cabanas are the best ever…..and personal waiter if you like. Telling everyone I know and the best prices too

Stephanie Robinson — Google review

We’ve made this a “must do stop” at this waterpark for the past two years! Each year we come into OBX a few days before our family arrives, and try to get the “kids” stuff out of the way. This day has become a favorite of ours with our boys as we enjoy each water attraction with them! If we lived locally, we’d certainly be a season pass holder. The only tip I would mention, is that later in the day the concrete starts to get very hot, so make sure to wear water shoes or flip flops if you don’t mind leaving them off to the side of an attraction. There are a few areas where I’ve seen they have sprinklers hit the concrete to help alleviate this issue. We typically visit in late August on a weekday, so I’m sure the crowds are smaller. You can tell that college or highschool aged employees have begun to go back to school, as several attractions were closed — including the kids rock climbing wall, the dippin dots spot, and the coffee and BBQ spot both closed early. It didn’t make or break our visit though. If you’re getting an adult beverage from ‘Flyboys’ make sure that both adults are present — my husband went to grab us both drinks (one drink each), and he had to leave mine at the bar until I could go there to retrieve my drink and show ID. Drinks were great though, and bar staff was hilarious!

Nikki Chambers — Google review

Loved it!! Great play area for smaller kids. Service was awesome ( we had a cabana and our server, Darcie, was fantastic) we live in Va Beach and there is a water park within 20 minutes of our house. But I prefer to drive the hour and few minutes drive to come here! This was our first time and I was impressed. Food prices were fair. Parking was easy and the park was clean and neat.

Jamie Elder — Google review

H2OBX was really great. The park was worth the drive and the money. Our drive was about 2hrs. & 30min. The slides are awesome and fun. The lines for the slides was not long. And I like the way the park is spaced out. It could be crowded but with the amount of space there it was ok. The food was actually ok as well. The lifeguards do an excellent job keeping there eyes on people and staying very attentive. Job well done. I would definitely recommend for a small getaway and refreshing water to relax in.

Katrina Batts — Google review

Fun waterpark short drive from outer banks. Park still feels new and is kept extremely clean. Visited on July 4th and it didn't seem overcrowded our group was able to get their fill of all of the slides and the lazy river by 3pm. Recommend renting a cabana if you can it makes for a relaxing place for your group to take a break and recharge.

Bill Kaiser — Google review

The park is very clean, staff is extremely friendly and look like they really enjoy their jobs. Lilian our cashier even joked right back with us, nice to see people who have a sense of humor. The kids really enjoyed the rides and pools and of course my favorite was the lazy river. I hope someone took a picture of the 60+ congo line in the lazy river yesterday 😆 I think the life guards we having almost as much fun as the people creating the line laughing at them and how crazy long it was. Buying our season passes for next year!!

Kathryn Long — Google review

My kids had a blast!! (and we did too). Entry prices were very reasonable. Park is very clean. Lines for the thrill rides were a bit long but that is expected. My youngest loved the smaller kids areas. Unfortunately there was a rain delay but we hung around and the park empty out. Got in the last hour with very few lines. Wave pool was super fun!

Amy Kumar — Google review

We were escorted out because our shoes and money were stolen. We were over charged ( which was later fixed upon request ) some of the staff could care less and the newbies chase after you with their measuring stick. Very hit or miss and they have some very strict rules which ends up making things suck.

Golf course is in good shape. We had the meatballs in the grill, EXCELLENT!! Kudos to the chef!

Robert Miller — Google review

Great condition (except for a couple par three tees). Very scenic with a good variety of holes. The staff was great and went out of their way to accommodate me playing as a single. They stated me on hole three (ahead of a notoriously slow group that had already played in the morning) and the started checked on me a couple of times and made sure I had no issue playing the first two holes when I turned on 18. Would highly recommend and will definitely play again.

Robin Morales — Google review

Super friendly and accommodating staff and great practice area. The course was in superb condition and pace of play was excellent - I was paired with one other golfer (very friendly guy from PA), we teed off at 7:33am, didn't wait once and finished 18 holes in just under 3 hours.Course is very playable, especially if you tee it forward. Overall highly recommended - much friendlier experience than the Nags Head Links and well worth the drive across the bridge if you're staying on OBX.

oofy prosser — Google review

Great course at a decent price. The course maintenance was on point...the greens were very consistent and the traps were groomed and clean. We got heavy rains for our first couple holes and the whole course drained really well. I will continue to make this my vacation round as long as they keep it up.

Josh Black — Google review

Course is in great shape and poses a good challenge. Only reason for 4-star is because the ranger passed us at one point and said “you guys are just a few minutes behind the pace, so just speed up a little” when no one was waiting behind/pushing us during play. Little frustrating because then you feel rushed at a game you should be taking your timeWas also given a “jab” by the starter who said “it’s always the first timers who are a little late”. Our tee time was 8:27. We were on the box waiting for the group ahead of us at 8:25.

This course and it's sister course, The Caroliona Club are the two best courses in the area from all points. The courses are always in excellent condition, the staff is always friendly and professional. Rates are very reasonable. The bar and grill is large and well stocked. Every employee treats you special. What more could you want?

We chose The Pointe for our wedding the first week of October and can assure anyone reading this it was the best decision! Along with 11th Hour Event Services & Ryan, our Wedding Day was beyond amazing. From the beginning of the planning process to the day of the wedding ensuring we had everything we needed to feel comfortable and relaxed, Ryan was there every step! The bartenders were exceptionally great & kept up with our guests all night long. We continuously receive compliments on how beautiful and smooth the weekend went.

Had a great time at the Pointe. Open layout so it was fun hitting alot of drivers and wedges. Protected and fast greens kept it challenging. Conditions were excellent and I can tell the grounds crews is doing a great job. Welcoming staff at the pro shop.

Great course!! Fairways are in good condition and the greens were great!! The staff was awesome as well, the starter was very knowledgeable and welcoming!! Had a few good jokes as well!!After the round the beers were nice and cold! Had a great time there and will definitely come back when we visit again!!

Michael Hoover — Google review

It was my first time playing this course and I have to say it was a wonderful experience all around. Every staff member I came into contact with was extremely polite and helpful and made me feel welcome. The course and all the facilities were immaculate. The layout of the course provides a good challenge but it is open enough that a few bad shots won't ruin your round. If you are in the OBX and trying to decide which course to play, I highly recommend The Pointe.

chris w — Google review

This is a really fun golf course and it is nice because it can be forgiving off the tee. There are some tricky holes as well and the course condition is always top notch and they have the best greens on the Outer Banks by far. Very friendly staff and they also have a very nice practice facility.

The Fudgery at Scarborough Lane Shoppes is a delightful confectionery retailer that offers a delectable array of sweet treats. Their specialty lies in their housemade fudge, which comes in an impressive variety of flavors and is made fresh daily using traditional methods. In addition to their creamy fudge, they also offer tempting pralines, caramel apples, chocolate treats, and ice cream with freshly made waffle cones.

Lots of options for fudge and ice cream. The turtles and pralines are huge! Staff were very nice and location was really clean.

Kelly Hewson — Google review

This was a neat shop. Pretty pricey and the fudge seemed a little on the hard side. The had many different flavors but you had to buy it in these big slabs. For each of the kids to pick out a piece and then add a candy apple I was spending $50 on fudge. This shop also had treats and ice cream.

Zach Tucker — Google review

Fudge is $12.00 per slice, which are supposed to be half a pound. The attendant stated after we made our initial package selection that we could purchase another slice and get 2 free. Once she rung up the slices, we realized that the fudge is still weighed an the price is spread across the total. We were also informed it was buy 4, get 2 free which is not what was stated. So after that was cleared up and the original slices put in the bag, we paid and returned to our rental to discovered the slices were not our original selections. The fudge is okay, it is not as moist as it appears and is less flavor more sugar tasting.

Shaun Megonnell — Google review

Love the fudge and the store was clean but the staff always try to talk you into buying more fudge than you need. It gets expensive quick so be careful with there up charge talking.

Timothy Prouse — Google review

When visiting the beach it's nice to splurge a little, on good things. This fudge is is definitely worth the trip! Made fresh in the store daily, cooked in a copper pot, spread on marble cooling tables, then shaped into "loaves" and cut into half pound slices for sale. Today they had 14 flavors. Georgann was super friendly and so helpful. They also have chocolate treats, candy apples, pralines and ice cream (nearly flavors) with fresh made waffle cones... so tasty!

Robert Myers — Google review

Decided to try out some fudge and was very excited about the variety, however the fudge is very pricey and seemed old. The slices crumbled into pieces and was almost crunchy. The taste wasn’t great either.

Tristan Dobson — Google review

Here is my review of the Fudgery at Scarborough Lane Shoppes. Four single scoops of ice cream and a piece of fudge set me back $44. There are very few times in my life when I've actually left a review of anything, even fewer after getting royally hosed. But this was insane. It's ice cream, folks. Ice cream. (Parents, rent a kayak. You'll pay about the same.)

Sheridan Lambert — Google review

This store was rather stark. Walked in and there were no other people and rather dank. Definitely they have a good amount of fudge. There are a good number of varieties. Was being run by a couple of people who didn't speak English well so not able to clearly get the fudge without a couple of tries. Also did not realize that there was a buy 2 get vanilla fudge free. There were also a couple of flies in the store as well.

Millie Kwan — Google review

I purchased fudge from this establishment and received my fudge in a bag with without a box and with out a way to cut and enjoy the fudge. There was no cutlery available. For 12 dollars this is ridiculous.

The Duck Town Park Boardwalk is a scenic and enjoyable park located in the town of Duck. It features a mile-long boardwalk that runs along the sound, connecting various restaurants, marshes, and forests. The boardwalk is an ideal spot for exercise as you take in the beautiful coastal views and explore local shops. Apart from strolling along the boardwalk, visitors can also go on walking tours to learn more about the area's history and environment.

This was an awesome find in the little town of Duck. While it's a smaller park, the kids had a blast and it's well shaded. The boardwalk itself is a fantastic way to get some exercise, while walking along the coastline and checking out the local shops. Highly recommend it!

Shanah Bell — Google review

Excellent well maintained boardwalk. We are here towards the end of the season and only found one loose board while we were walking. The boardwalk loops around all of the shops in the area and is an absolutely perfect place to catch sunset. If you’re in the area I recommend checking it out!

Very pretty place to walk around. Large boardwalk goes all along the shops. Husband's - take your bride and spend the day. . . She'll love it.

Duck town Park was excellent. Watched a movie in the park on movie night. They had a table set up for anyone who wanted to use bug and mosquito repellent spray. It was a great evening. And the caretakers were awesome. They made sure everything was just right!

Damac (U. S. Traveler) — Google review

Loved the Boardwalk. The walking tour that we were able to sign up for was informative. We will visit the boardwalk and sound again.

Lisa Remsen — Google review

An awesome place to experience nature..The shops we may be able to see another time..but our trip in March to the boardwalk did not disappoint. If you have health issues be sure to find places to use the restroom before you go. As not many businesses allow the public to use the restroom. While on our walk we did the Duck Donuts verses Donuts on a Stick comparison. My son preferred Duck Donuts while my husband prefers Donuts on s stick. If yall love sweets, why not try both.We were able to see cool scenes and awesome birds. If you are a nature lover, I encourage you to protect yourself from the sun and experience this trek. And the benches that allow you to rest and just relax while enjoying nature allow even those with physical challenges to enjoy the boardwalk.

Denise Harrington — Google review

Great views. Free but expect to spend a little money at the connected shops and restaurants. Lots of good deals for tourists.

Aric Pennington — Google review

Nice long boardwalk on the Currituck sound in OBX! There are lots of shops and restaurants along the boardwalk. There's also a cute playground for kids not far off of it. Part of the boardwalk goes right over the sound where you can sometimes spot turtles and birds. There's also a very nice public restroom located right off of the boardwalk. Definitely worth stopping by if you're visiting the outer banks.

Crystal Martirano — Google review

Definitely recommend. Nice and quiet. Many choices for snacks or a full meal. Nice scenery.

Kay Kay — Google review

The boardwalk follows the sound side of the island through the town park, much of the shopping area and town center. There are well maintained restrooms nearby. If you take your time tehre is a lot of wildlife to see. There are some signs but it would be nice if there was a little more effort put into pointing out and explaining nature -- flora, fauna and the interaction of the water and land. Photos are large driftwood, a crab hunting tadpoles, a frog and a turtle.

Michael Richards — Google review

Wonderful walk that changes with the time of the day and season! The path connects a series of very nice shops, restaurants and even a playground in Duck. You can spend 25mins to hours(!) strolling around the town. Each time you come back, you will discover something new.
