The Bank of America Mobile POS Solution comes with the Mobile Card Reader D135, a Bluetooth® card reader that lets you take payments on the go with an Apple or Android smartphone or tablet, the BofA Point of Sale – Mobile (MobilePOS) app and an integrated MobilePOS Dashboard. It’s simple and secure and takes payments virtually anywhere, transforming your device into an EMV® certified payment solution. The MobilePOS app is fully integrated with the Mobile Card Reader D135 device and is certified for all major payment providers.

  • [Music in background throughout] Thank you for choosing the Mobile Point of Sale Solution with the Mobile Card Reader D135 from Bank of America.This video will show you how to set up your Point of Sale Solution and prepare to take payments with your Card Reader, so feel free to stop, rewind, and rewatch any sequence.
  • To start, open your box. Inside, you'll find a welcome kit including a welcome letter, a quick set-up guide and a card acceptance decal for your location, along with other useful and important information.
  • Now, remove your card reader, which is powered down, and before turning it on, you'll want to fully charge it using the USB type C port on the side by plugging it into any USB-C power adapters or computer ports using the included cord.
  • Blinking red means it's charging, and once it's a solid green, you're fully charged and ready to activate your card reader.
  • Once you're fully charged, hold down the power button on the side, here, until it beeps.
  • Then release.
  • You can also power down the card reader the same way.
  • Once your card reader is on, open your Bluetooth settings on your mobile phone or tablet and make sure Bluetooth is active.
  • Also confirm that you have downloaded the BofA Point of Sale Mobile app on the device, either from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
  • If you don't have the app yet, pause this video, download the app and refer to your welcome email for instructions on how to set up your password and log-in. On the first login, a prompt to allow "Mobile POS" to use your location will appear. Select "Allow while using the app."
  • Now that you're logged into the app, it should automatically detect your card reader and prompt you to pair via Bluetooth.
  • You may also be prompted to download the latest firmware.
  • If so, allow the firmware to update prior to proceeding any further.
  • Then, follow the prompts until you get confirmation that your card reader has paired successfully.
  • Now that your card reader is powered on and paired with your mobile phone, you're ready to take payments.
  • Using the app, you can begin a transaction.
  • For most credit cards, you can use tap to pay by holding the card or mobile device within two inches of this symbol
    on the card reader.
  • For chip cards, insert them chip side in, facing up in the opening at the bottom of the card reader.
  • If the chip doesn't read, you can swipe cards using the slot just above, with the magnetic stripe at the top and the card facing up as well.
  • Also, please be aware that the Mobile Card Reader cannot process debit card transactions that require a PIN.
  • Now you should be ready to take payments with your Mobile Card Reader D135.

Before you begin

You will need the following resources to set up your Mobile POS Solution and begin taking payments:

  • Merchant account with Bank of America
  • An Android or iOS phone or other smart mobile device with cellular service or Wi-Fi connectivity
  • The Mobile Card Reader D135

Getting started with the MobilePOS app

To use demo mode

Our Mobile POS Solution includes a demonstration mode option that allows a preview of how the application operates. No registration or activation is required to use the Demo Mode; however, you will need to download the app.

  1. Download the BofA Point of Sale – Mobile (MobilePOS) app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Open MobilePOSapp.
  3. TapDemo Mode in the bottom right corner.

To activate your account and install the app

To get started using your Mobile POS Solution, activate your Merchant Services account and download and install the app.

  1. Activate your account using the "Please Activate Your Mobile Point of Sale Solution" email sent to the email address provided during the account opening process. Check your junk/spam folder if you cannot find this email.

    NOTE:If you are activating multiple locations that will use MobilePOS app, you may receive a notification when activating. Refer to Mobile POS Multiple Location Activation for details.

  2. Download the BofA Point of Sale – Mobile (MobilePOS) app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  3. Open the MobilePOSapp.
  4. When prompted, allow notifications from the app.
  5. Enter the email address and password you created during the activation of your account in the first step.
  6. Set a secure PIN passcode for quick access. This code will be required every time the app is opened.

    NOTE: If you would like to use two-factor authentication to receive a text with a secure code each time you log in, that may be configured in the MobilePOS Dashboard.

  7. When prompted to use your location, tap Allow While Using App to allow MobilePOS app to use your location.
To pair the application to the Mobile Card Reader D135

After enabling location services, you will receive a prompt to pair the Mobile Card Reader D135.

NOTE:
If you need to switch the card reader to a different device, disconnect it on your device and then follow the steps to connect to the new device.

  1. Ensure that the card reader is fully charged and that the Bluetooth setting on your phone or tablet is active.
  2. Press and hold the powerbutton on the reader until the reader beeps and the orange light comes on.
  3. In the MobilePOS app on your phone or tablet, tap Pair Reader. The app will search for the card reader.
  4. When detected, the reader serial number will display. Tap the serial numberbutton on the app.

    NOTE:If the card reader serial number doesn’t appear, confirm that the reader is powered on, Bluetooth is enabled, and that your phone or tablet is within 10 feet from the reader, then tap Rescan.

  5. Tap Confirmto pair the reader to your device. When successfully paired, the card reader will show a green light only.

    NOTE:If a firmware update prompt occurs, follow the on-screen directions to download the updated software. This could take a few minutes.

To log in to the MobilePOS app

After your initial setup and pairing of the card reader, log in to the app with your passcode. If you have enabled biometrics, you will not need to enter a PIN passcode at login.

  1. Open the MobilePOS app on your device.
  2. Enter your PIN passcode. The application opens to the Quick Sale screen. You are ready to take a payment
