To celebrate World Teacher Day, we chatted with Dr. Frank Liu, a UWA Business School Senior Lecturer. Not only is he a UWA Award for Excellence in Teaching winner but also a student favourite. And if you're fortunate, you might catch him playing the guitar and singing finance lyrics at his end-of-semester lectures.🌟𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈? I have been teaching at UWA since 2014. I have taught various finance subjects, from introductory level units to risk management at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 🌟𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒆𝒏𝒋𝒐𝒚 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈?I’m deeply passionate about explaining the world of finance to my students and empowering them with the knowledge to make informed decisions in their future endeavours 🌟𝑯𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒇𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈? There are many priceless moments that have enriched my journey as a teacher. One memorable instance was hearing the exuberant shouts of students proclaiming they had finally grasped the overarching concept. Their joy and understanding are truly rewarding. 🌟𝑶𝒖𝒕𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒐?I indulge in photography and play the guitar. In a tradition I cherish, I conclude the final lecture of each semester by singing a song with my guitar, adapting song lyrics to echo the theme of the unit being taught. 🌟 𝑨𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔? I want my students to know that their growth and success are my ultimate rewards, and I'm continually inspired by their curiosity and drive.

Really thorough and thoughtful article on the many roles, responsibilities and challenges undertaken by board professionals.

Update!!! Teaching and learning!!!To prepare accountancy professionals it implies that greater emphasis should be placed on the skills and competencies required to use the tools available to apply the principles to the prevailing conditions and circ*mstances. This means that accountancy education requires a significant and paradigm shift from knowledge-based to competency-based teaching and learning. This means that greater emphasis should be placed on principles coupled with development of students with a growth mindset where critical thinking and problem-solving must rank high on the list of competencies. To transition from a knowledge-based teaching and learning pedagogy, it is important to understand how the principles should be applied in different circ*mstances and conditions. #teachingandlearning #competencybased #knowledgebased #educationpedagogy
