Jacklyn Martin, of Strasburg, recently was inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society, at Lebanon Valley College.

Area students were among those recently inducted into the Lebanon Valley College chapter of the Kappa Pi International Art Honor Society They are Ashley Duchnowski, of Ephrata; Rose Grisbacher, of Lititz; and Greta Plechner, of Quarryville.

Marina Gerges, of Leola, recently was inducted into the Psi Chi honor society at Lebanon Valley College. Affiliated with the American Psychological Association, Psi Chi is the national honor society for students who are psychology or neuroscience majors or psychology minors.

Taylor Straley, of Lancaster, recently was inducted into Delta Alpha Pi, an academic honor society for students with disabilities, at Lebanon Valley College.

Gavin Davidson, of Willow Street, presented “The Use of Data Analytics in Forensic Accounting” as part of his accounting theory capstone project the 11th annual Academic Excellence Celebration on April 25, 2024, at McKendree University, Lebanon, Illinois.

Mineishka Garcia, of Lancaster, co-presented original psychology research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research in April 2024 in Long Beach, California. A graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, Garcia is studying child and family studies at Albright College, and presented “How Immigration Status and Skin Tone Effects Perceived Leadership” at the conference.

Leigha Aten, of Ephrata, is one of seven Lebanon Valley College students recently inducted into its chapter of Delta Mu Delta, an international business honor society.

Milady Lagunas, of Nottingham, is the Senior Class Gift presenter for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania undergraduate ceremony on May 11, 2024. Lagunas will receive a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in sustainability. A member of IUP’s Cook Honors College, Lagunas is a 2020 graduate of Kennett High School. She was born in Mexico and raised in Kennett Square. A dean’s list student and provost scholar, she received the Inclusion and Advocacy Award in 2022, the Outstanding Leadership Award in 2023, and the 2024 Award for Excellence in Volunteer Leadership-Aspiring Alumni category from the IUP Alumni Association. She has been active with the Latino Student Organization and was a co-organizer for the IUP Unity Ball in 2022. She is a member of the IUP Ambassadors student-alumni group and is a past president of the organization; is a Crimson Guide (admissions tour guide); was selected for the Promising Scholars program; and is a member of the Latino Exploration Committee, serving as a Latino Exploration Day coordinator, which included hosting more than 50 prospective Latino students from the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia areas. She is the founder of the Para La Cultura Series (For the Culture). She is a member of the Cook Honors College executive board, and in 2022, she was an invited participant for the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference held in Dallas, Texas, where in addition to traditional conference activities, she participated in a conference service project, painting a mural around the theme of immigration and belonging at Kirkpatrick Middle School in Fort Worth; she was interviewed by a Fort Worth television station about the project.

John P. Greenwald, of Manheim, captured two gold awards in the 2023-24 American Advertising Awards Competition presented by the Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Advertising Federation. A senior majoring in graphic design at Pennsylvania College of Technology, Greenwald’s Folio to Film Book Cover Series was honored in the Publication Design category, and his Broken Mirror Brewery Packaging won in the Packaging category. Greenwald also earned a silver award in Packaging for Steel City Creamery Ice Cream Pint.

Area students were among those recently inducted into Phi Sigma Iota, the Department of Languages honor society, at Lebanon Valley College. They are Tyler Hartl, of Manheim; and Rowan Myers, of Lancaster.

Jacklyn Martin, of Strasburg, is one of eight Lebanon Valley College students recently inducted into Gamma Sigma Epsilon, the national chemistry honor society.

Alarie Findley, of East Earl, earned the 2024 Grove City College Senior Woman of the Year award on April 24, 2024. Findley, who majored in mechanical engineering, is a Trustee Fellow and gifted violinist who played for three years in the string quartet and is currently the concertmaster for both the symphonic orchestra and the chamber orchestra. She has served as a leader in Orientation Board, Senior Women’s Bible Study, MECE Student Leadership Club, and her senior capstone research group. Findley has worked as a physics teaching assistant and exam proctor for disability services, participated in the Deeply Rooted mentorship program, and served on Inner-City Outreach Ashland. She also played intramural spikeball for three years and participated in the Ultimate Frisbee Club and the Human Powered Vehicles Club. The awards are presented jointly by the leadership honoraries Mortar Board and Omicron Delta Kappa as a service to Grove City College. Man and Woman of the Year selections are made based on scholarship, leadership, and service. The candidates were voted on by students and faculty. The senior awards are the highest honors that the College can bestow on students. Their names are recorded for posterity on a memorial plaque on a boulder outside Harbison Chapel on campus. Former recipients of this prestigious honor have gone on to become leaders in faith, education, business, law and health care.
